If they used https://wgpu.rs/ they would get directx and metal for free (:
Have you considered making it a PWA?
To this day that's still one of the top WebGL sites!
Glad to hear! ^^
My pleasure!
Oh! Was not aware! Unibrau¹? :D
will do!
In the 2000s I did a quite a few demos¹.
Even if it was fun I often felt it was useless because the skills I was acquiring were only applicable for game development and that was something I was not interested in.
It was quite a shock to me when I found myself working on a WebGL demo for Google² and all what I had learnt in the demoscene paid off (and has continued paying off ever since!³⁴).

Came here to share the same thought.
Made this thing in 2010. I can't remember if I saw the trick being used in another website before or not... https://mrdoob.com/projects/voxels/#A/bnciaTraheakhacTSiahfa...
Definitely not more efficient. The only thing JS would need to do here is updating a 4x4 matrix. Everything else would be in the GPU.
At least JS-powered renderers can do something about making sure it looks the same in all browsers. With CSS you can't do anything about the fact that this simple demo doesn't render correctly in Safari/iOS and Firefox/Android.
+1
"98% of all canvases use a Canvas2D rendering context" ō_ô
Safari did.
Try with the dev version:

We are slowly moving away from that approach.
Have a look at the NodeMaterial API that it's being designed right now:

Intel GPU?

That's sad :(
Beautiful!
Thanks for debugging this! I'll see if I can fix it
No
I would recommend watching Andreas Kling's youtube series where he builds a javascript engine from scratch.
Yeah! I want to see! :D
FWIW runs at 30fps on a Pixel 3a :)
It is open source: https://github.com/brunosimon/folio-2019
https://www.awwwards.com/ is a good start.
I don't think you follow the right people/channels. I see a wow effect every week.
