Interesting. Hadn’t heard of any existing that far back. Do you know if they generated revenue at all? What was it called?

More than that. It’s past proof of concept! Now to just build out the bits to get it to pass app review…
I’ll cross that bridge if I get there! That would be a great problem to have if it sees such interest/usage.
Keep in mind I’d only be storing comments and the references to where they’re posted. I don’t need to know the webpages ahead of time at all.
I’ve got a side project going that’s a browser extension (starting with Safari + Sign in with Apple) intended to add a comment layer to the internet as a whole. I’m calling it Chaffiti (https://chaffiti.com).
The idea is to enable a comment section on any webpage, right as you’re browsing. Viewing a Zillow listing? See what people are excited about with the property. Wonder what people think about a tourist attraction? It’ll be right there. Want to leave your referral or promo code on a checkout page for others? Post it.
Not sure what the business model will look like just yet. Just the kind of thing I wish existed compared to needing to venture out to a third party (traditional social media / forums etc) to see others’ thoughts on something I’m viewing online. I welcome any feedback!
I created a no-frills guest list management web app for social get togethers. You rsvp via sms and event hosts can broadcast any updates/reminders as needed. I got a little “dissatisfied” seeing group chats light up with “+1!” when plans were shared. Would be cool to enhance it and make it a business but [excuses here].

This line of thinking is exactly what got me down the path of building out Passbox fwiw.
That, or variations of it, have come up in discussions and it is interesting. It's not just you being tired, no worries.
Sadly (?) I'm not currently interested in going down that path, potentially against the law. Don't think I'd want to go bat on those grounds.
I like this take - especially relaxing the persona. Thanks!
I agree! That’s what I want to get across with the shareable results page:

I think it could use an additional reward component though...
Here’s an example results page if you’re curious.

Some buddies and I were talking about a similar site (https://whopaid99cents.com) that spawned the idea for this.
I found the original concept so absurd but amusing that I wanted to make my own version!! It’s been a welcome distraction as you can imagine and could be the basis for something more. Tbd...
Deployed on heroku with python/django, postgres and react. Stripe for payments too.
These are interesting to think about. Thanks!
This one's really silly but I got excited to build it out for my own entertainment.
It's called Who Paid More (https://whopaidmore.com) and the idea is pretty frivolous. Every day (EDT) you volunteer an amount you want to pay to see how your amount stacks up against others for that day. Think ranking and relative % across users for that period and the ability to share those results. Not much more to it at the moment.
I feel a little stuck trying to think of what would make it more fun/novel/rewarding besides just being curious about what people put money into.
OP here:
I found the above interesting for my own project but it got me wondering. What steps do you or people you know take today to handle digital inheritance?
If anyone’s got marketing suggestions please do share!
I’ve got a couple things going with my transferable data store, Passbox (https://passbox.co):
- the final touches of a dead man switch feature - outlining a marketing/promotion plan for the app overall
I’m actually building Passbox (https://passbox.co) to help with this
500 error here
I don't disagree with you here. I just aim to offer a one-stop shop to get that access.
The ideal scenario too is for credentials, data, etc that's not currently shared between people when alive. So I, for example, as a single dude don't have anyone else with access to me iPhone, email, or Facebook. That's not something I'd just hand over to anyone just in case. In a Passbox scenario though then by all means!
Thanks for your comment!
Email is the current approach I decided to _start_ with but isn't the only way to go about it. Voice calls, text messages and maybe even push notifications (if a mobile app materializes) are feasible approaches too.
I’m with you on number 1. It’s going to be an interesting challenge to overcome but I’m mindful that even the biggest of names today started from scratch.
Understood on your second point but should it be wound down it’s easy to contact everyone, provide a suitable sunset notice and allow off-boarding.
Thanks for your comments!
Thanks for this comment!
Thanks!
I haven’t coded anything for that yet but my thinking is to possibly have the third party user pay the balance of what’s owed (probably up to a cap) to access the account owners data. Reason being that without that anyone could ride for free by using a card that is then canceled
Thanks for your question!
Thanks for your feedback and compliment!
As you can imagine I had to pick an approach and run with it. Nothing’s set in stone and I’m considering the exceptional feedback throughout to see what changes I should make that are mutually beneficial.
Taking pricing off the table would you be game to give the app a test drive and email me your feedback/thoughts?
Thanks again!
Bring on the questions! I don’t mind one bit. Feel free to tweet or email me if needed too (email at the bottom of the landing page)!
What’s funny is earlier versions of the landing page had way more detail for what you’re asking about and I got chided for it during user testing reviews haha.
Every user generates their own key (which can make it more friendly) and would need to provide it to their contacts on their own. It’s required to be set before you add any data.
Modifying users doesn’t change anything for me. Any new contact would need to be sent the same key or you can change it! Old users wouldn’t be able to request access regardless of knowing your (maybe old) key.
Thanks for your thoughts and the clarification to your original point
I understand your set and forget mentality with respect to paying a single fee, setting Passbox up and then leaving it be. Does that change for you at all given the fact that digital items/accounts/etc get updated on occasion? You may also fall into and out of favor with trusted folks and may need to adjust who is allowed to access your account or even assign the data differently.
Other than this I like how you explained not wanting to think about the price on a recurring basis.
Thanks again
Are you presuming a scenario where the company would go dark with no notice?
