Hi Hamel, thanks for releasing this. Slightly OT, but do you have any advice for someone who wants to work on/with LLMs at a tech company? How can a fullstack engineer transition to work on LLMs? How do I get the attention of some of the good tech companies since they usually want some ML related roles on the resume? What sort of projects can I work on? Maybe blogging about my learning might help? I know this is a very generic question, but any advice from someone like you would be great!

Slightly off topic: I'm interested in taking part in the Vesuvius challenge[0], but I don't have a background in ML, just a regular web developer. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get started? I planned to get some background on practical ML by working through Karpathy's Zero to Hero series along with the Understanding Deep Learning book. Would that be enough or anything else I should learn? I plan to understand the existing solutions to last year's prize and then pick a smaller sub challenge.

I think you're referring to the future where all tickets are digital, which is fine. This is in addition to the ticket, id checks etc. You will need to show the aarogya setu e pass to prove that you're low risk, don't have a history of coming in contact with a person having covid 19. In theory it sounds fine, the devil is in the details : having to link phone number, have all location history stored etc. If its like how apple and google designed it, I would be fine with it. I don't think people realize the gravity of what's being done. While google and apple design nice apis which can do contact tracing while maintaining privacy, that's not how contact tracing will be implemented as shown by this app. It requires :

- a mobile phone number - location and bluetooth, always on - name,profession

The mobile number part concerns me. Government wants to use it as a way to contact people but the potential for abuse is there.

Installing this app is mandatory for public and private companies. So if you are an employee, you have no choice in the matter. It's like a surveillance state in the making.

They are also planning an e pass feature which will be required to board a flight/metro. Chinese level dystopian shit in the works.

To top it all off, non compliance is a criminal offence. FYI the law enforcement, legal system is a complete joke in India.

Random cops stopping to ensure you have the app installed? Happening. Non complaince? Do situps, get beaten with a lathi. I wish I was joking.

Edit : Manufactures will need to preinstall it on new devices. You can see where this is going.

I am interested in working as a software engineer at Gitlab, what do you feel is a good path to land a job at the company? I plan to start contributing meaningful changes to gitlab itself and have a couple of side projects to show. What else can I do to land a job and how do I get noticed since it's mostly outbound hiring going forward. Note : I don't use linkedin and don't plan to. The company I work for uses Outlook/teams for booking meetings and it works incredibly well. The scheduling part you talked about is almost exactly like the scheduling assistant feature in outlook and teams. Sorry if this comes across as a negative question, but what exactly does zync offer over outlook and teams which have scheduling assistant?

I want to learn how to build a phone, maybe something like the pine64 and librem phones. I'm a web dev so it's..challenging. How do I learn to:

* understand the hardware components required in a phone?

* understand the software components required? postmarketos and plasma mobile maybe?

* How do I even start to build a prototype? What components would I use? Maybe start with using a raspberry pi to make a DIY phone?

Really cool service. Using warp on my phone and it surprisingly makes a big difference in locations with spotty 4G. Couple of questions :

* I read that cloudflare generates a unique id for each install and the purpose was to track referrals. Consider adding an option to opt out of the unique id tracking since some users will be concerned about it.

* Any plans to add an option to use an ip from cloudflare instead of my ip address being visible to the websites I visit, at least on the paid plan? I know this opens a can of worms dealing with abuse of the service which could lead to certain ip addresses belonging to cloudflare being blacklisted.

Gmail was still dog-slow the last time I tried, Youtube can send my fan into a frenzy and Docs is also regularly problematic.

While I agree that ads are not a good way to fund foss development, what I find disgusting is the hate directed towards the maintainer for trying out this experiment and towards the project itself. This sort of hate is what pushes good people away from foss projects and I've seen this play out many times over the years. Please let your disagreement known to the authour with good reasoning, do not hate on his project or make personal attacks on the author.

It looks like Dex is fairly early stage and has a single founder(?). Many people including myself see this as a fairly rare occurence though YC insists otherwise (and YC is likely correct). I wanted to ask you a few questions about your company and journey leading up to to YC.

* When did you start the company and how many founders are there?

* What was your traction (MAU or anything else) prior to being accepted into YC?

* How do you plan to grow the userbase? Content marketing, ads, partnering with other companies?

* How do you plan to make money?

* How big is the market size?

* Are there any adjacent markets that you could see yourself expanding into?

Off topic : there seems to be a disconnect between the chrome devs and users. Another instance was the automatic signing in to chrome incident. I've lost trust in the chrome team and have switched to Firefox full time and honestly there's nothing that I miss. The firefox devs seem to better understand their users, frequently blog about changes that positively impact users. I have a lot more faith in firefox even though it's not perfect (mr. robot incident and others).

I used java for competitive coding competions, so I know the basics, but I've never used any frameworks in java before. Having experience in web development and knowing the basics of java, I thought I would be productive in spring boot in a few weeks but I never would have guessed I would be so completely lost with spring boot. (please don't ask me how many weeks I spent learning spring boot, it's simply embarrassing).

Now I am not a complete noob to webdev. I have worked with django extensively and I have had a pleasant expereince with it. Everything is so beuatifully thought out, the docs are wonderful and I am never left scratching my head wanting to curse at the top of my lungs.

The TerrariaClone.init() method, which is over 1,300 lines long, actually grew so large that the Java compiler started running out of memory trying to compile it! The solution? Copy half of the init() code into a new method, called codeTooLarge(), and call that from init()
