I think that link is referring to going for a workout with just the monitor itself to record your heart rate - no other devices present. You can use/build your own mobile or desktop apps without needing their software if that's what you're wondering.
I made a custom iOS app for my wife and I to monitor our workouts using their SDK and I really happy with it
I think you should read 10% Happier by Dan Harris. He's a news anchor that tried meditation after having a panic attack on air. He's doesn't oversell the benefits (he says he feels about 10% happier) and he covers his journey from skeptic to practicing every day

I don't have a CS or engineering degree but I've been working as a developer for over a year. My advice is to have a good portfolio of projects that you can use to showcase what you can do.
I had major imposter syndrome in the beginning but now I'm a key contributor to the product. You learn a ton on the job so it's important to apply for one before you feel completely 'ready'
You absolutely can. I got my first development job at 31 with no experience. Make a good CV with the projects you built and go into an interview demonstrating enthusiasm for solving problems and making software.
If you want a job in front end dev spend time mastering vanilla javascript / es6. Practice using git and do a lot of reading to get a good grasp on the industry.

Similarly you can put most vegetables in a glass of water and they'll last a whole lot longer. Where I live vegetables aren't always very fresh and by doing this I can take wilty kale, for example, and make it full and crisp

During the last federal election the refugee crisis was a campaign issue. I gave up social media for a while because the amount of hatred I was seeing towards the refugees was making me feel sick.
When I got back on facebook I saw that my small town was planning to start a sponsorship group. I went to see how I could help and we formed a committee to bring seven refugee families to our town. I was able to help out by setting up the website, social media and helping with online donations (the group was mostly an older crowd).
To date we've raised over $100k, resettled 5 families and positively changed the lives of everyone involved. All the men are working and half their wives have jobs too. Some of the children are going to school for the first time in their lives and they're learning English quickly. Its incredible to see them playing and laughing after everything they've been through.
I recently moved to another city but I feel so lucky to have been a part of something that had such an impact. And I miss the coffee one of the women used to make :-/
If this could be applied to greenhouses in cold climates that would he amazing. A glass/polycarbonate coating that lets in the Sun's radiation but restricts heat from leaving.

I wish I had seen many of these small towns when the fishing industry was thriving. They are beautiful places but they're just a shell of what they used to be. So many abandoned homes, businesses, stages. If you've got FU money there's plenty of cheap oceanview property.
The earth is round but HN users aren't evenly distributed across the globe. The time on the US west coast matters because that's where the majority of users seem to be.

Even if you talk to people about your idea and they love it that doesn't mean that they'll actually buy it. You can increase your likelihood of success by finding a problem first and then making a product that solves that problem. This takes a lot of research.
In my opinion you should build this for yourself if you'll find it useful but don't get too fixated on selling it to others if it doesn't get traction. If your goal is to build a business do your research first and then produce the product, not the other way around.
I haven't gotten a job yet myself but I got my first interview by having a resume that really stood out. My process was:

In my case the job I was applying for was a campaigning/petitioning platform so I sent them a petition titled "Hire mpatobin to work at X" and had some fun with the copy.

Because acacia does so well in African drylands. Its also a nitrogen fixing tree which helps it grow fast as it does.
The goal of reforestation in drylands is to increase shade to reduce evaporation. Once the acacia has provided enough quick shade they can (and hopefully will) plant other plants in the understory to increase diversity.
Bare ground results in erosion whereas a forest slows the movement of water, shades it and allows it to sink into the ground.
I don't know the breakdown of farms in the US but in Canada "family farms" supppsedly make up 98% of all farms. This includes mega farms that are owned by families
