well its kinda funny to poke-fun at stallman calling him a paranoid freak...but its even funnier when quite recently we find out hmm maybe hes not so paranoid, perhaps he just knows more then we do and I feel that's a safe claim to make I wouldn't mind picking his brain for at least an hour paranoid or not the dudes a bad ass i mean ("gnu" gnus not unix) hes simply a genius disguised as a madman

^ this is exactly where the state of the internet should be...lets fix the infrastructure before expanding it.

being a big c9.io user nitrous.io does have that same look and feel...however I really dislike the credit system in my expereince anytime a company has tried to use some kind of credit system its usually never good for those devs who simply cant pay or simply dont want to...but overall love the look and feel "cant wait to start slinging some mad js"

if you lean more towards web dev...then you most deffeintly dont need school..web programming is dead easy even for a beginner who has never touched programming. application/desktop programming is a little more involved...the main difference being web dev is mostly more cosmetic(eg change something a refresh to see its output) compared to the compile-link and run phase of application dev... I honestly think if your passionate about w/e your learning then your employer(if he/she actually cares about the quality of your work) will hire you without a degree/diploma (im not suggesting you drop out of hs)

All i know is school dosent come even remotly close to preparing you for programming in the real world im self taught and even if I had todo it over again I would not waste any money trying to learn programming from a school. not to mention you can find EVERYTHING you need to learn and implement programming w/o a school and schools are usually 5-6 years behind so they will be teaching vb6 when the standard is win8rt or very basic php when you should be learning new technologies and concepts...also in my experince most schools dont even teach its more like "heres the book...read it and write an essay" (honestly which employer is gonna ask for an essay or a "open-ended-response" to my projects

sounds kinda like the reason why most people would rather look-up guides to video games on the internet then buy the strategy guide at thier local wallmart, also advice is kinda like an opinion just because you get some advice doesn't mean its "good" or worth the payment also how would you know the source is credible...its on the internet anyone could claim to be someone else....I think its an alright idea BUT I would never pay someone over the internet for advice when experience is more valuable

the main flaw in that show is that it assumes that the machine has access to all these devices at any point when the truth is most of those devices are on a closed circuit or not even on the global internet but instead a local intranet the same is true for shoes like NCIS where they can just pull up any video feed at any point in time is just too unrealistic, however in the near future more and more cameras and CCTV's will be put on the internet where ANYONE can gain access to them, so while its not impossible its just very unlikely (not to mention that most of the devices that are on the net and accessible are of such low quality and streaming so that if something did happen in front of them you would need a recording and a court order to obtain such data) so Possible? maybe Feasable? not really imagine sucha machine getting hacked (even in the show they say thats not possible but everything can be hacked)

yea expose the kids to real life problem solving, after they get the basics they can solve thier own problems.

quit trying to teach kids with pseudo languages and actually teach them something they can use something like python is exactly what you should be teaching kids something they can take with them and build upon languages like Scratch and Alice are worthless because they require you to learn the program instead of the concepts once they get the concepts its a done deal they can choose they're own path...its 2013 kids are smart as fuck even at a young age.

well for cross platform Qt or gtk,although everyone always says stay away from experimental I say use canvas If the user cant use the canvas fall back to jquery. I belive with the technologies we have now old idioms like "dont render gui on the canvas" this will soon fade away, running your own server for just that application may not work so well as you have to manage that server aswell, like what if the user isnt allowed to give the firewall access? or what if the server crashes and the client has import data that needs to saved? I personally have played with alot of gui stuff and I always come back to html5 and js so thats just my $0.02

this really isnt news I mean back when everyone left thier routers open be default alot of the network names where even more aggressive its funny they know howto change the sisd but not the damn password or encryption type lol
