For sure, I hated the that. But the financial shenanigans that tech decided to do thinking Trump would be leader for life will come back to bite them. Its some of the worst corruption since like early 1900s.
Because they became Trumps biggest backers and all the things they done since he was elected open them up to corruption investigations, particularly House Investigations.
If it was a bunch of absurd AI hype would you care? Everyone is so hyped on speculation, I think it is important to point out the dangers. No one else will. It may help people make more informed decisions.
It's incredibly dangerous for the government to be playing economic games like this. They're making one segment of the population suffer and another segment become wildly rich. This won't end well for anyone.
It's a lot like AR before Vision Pro. The situation for the demo and reality didn't meet. I'm not trying to claim Vision Pro is perfect but it seems to do AR in the real world without the circumstances needing to be absolutely ideal.
"The proportion of global companies planning to increase spending on AI over the next 12 months has slipped to 63% from 93% a year earlier, according to a recent survey of 2,500 business leaders by software company Lucidworks Inc. Meanwhile, just 5% of companies in the US are using AI, according to the Census Bureau."
The AI hype happened in close proximity to the decline of the crypto mania and so many mediocre grifters from crypto latched onto AI as a fraud life raft.
I feel like OpenAI took this thing out of the oven too soon or packaged in a way which misrepresents its nature. The power of AI isn't to answer your technical support questions or be your AI personal assistant, it's in the manic creativity that convinced people they were talking with a human (albeit a slight unhinged one.) But that energy had to be nerfed for business use cases and in of itself is problematic for monetization. So what we're left with after they've been nerfed is basically an iteration on what we already had, not the world changing technology that we were promised.
When I see people saying things like Claude could be a Supreme Court Justice I'm reminded of all the blockchain maximalists a few years ago being like, this will transform every function in the economy.
I'm not sure I believe that math though. The person taking the order is also the person responsible for the drinks and the payment. Most of the inside is already done through app and kiosks. Drive through also has the ability to pick up app orders. The drive through order taking isn't the big cost here. You would still need that person to hand food, prep drinks. The real time is in prepping the order not taking the order. Reason for the line at the drive through is the meal prep not the ordering process. If AI slows down the ordering process in any way it is actually a net negative.
The labor costs are not what's causing the price rises, the CEO have said so themselves on earnings calls. Also the costs of implementing the system at all restaurants when you have stuff like Kiosks already makes it overkill. They've already automated as much of the experience as is practical with AI's current limitations.
