You miss a point: When you take an image in the way of preview and shot, your image is like you felt it should be (or not).

Paste it over by a click and this feeling is disassociated from your pic (or as the author states: not real).

Completely agree. "Weekend" projects don't come up when you wake up on Saturday morning and are ready for sale on Monday.

My comment was caused as I observe an increasing number of these "weekend" or "side-project" messages at HN. For me it looks like the authors are too cautious to stand for their project as something that took all their attention and that still may have mistakes.

What follows is an inflationary trend that most "Show HN" posts are declared as minute-jobs and we lose the open culture of a showroom, where the other mates take your work serious and try to positively criticise it. Not long, and we have sidecars only.

I think it is not important how long one needs for a project shown here. The message transported with the timeline is else "look I'm a genious" or "sorry, all the remaining bugs are from a lack of time".

I have to remark, that I don't think of any particular posts in the last time and I know that I may include projects in my generalization that don't deserve it. This hasn't been my intention. And my original confession to be a bad hacker is still valid!

The SiteMeter graph is irrelevant too as they didn't add the SiteMeter.js.

Wow. Looks like you have outsourced every imaginable job when there's a webservice for it. Are you doing this because of bad experiences when servicing your own or did you do this from the start? Did you compare the running costs/reliability between outsourcing and self administration with a positive result into outsourcing?

Great article about language as the last man standing against globalism. If you ever have to manage the translation of a piece of software into a different language, you will find two kinds: One in western chars where you can get a feeling about the translators work and one in different chars like russian, japanese, chinese, arabic where you don't get a ghost of idea what is written there.

For search engines this is much harder: if you don't employ a sufficient numbers of native speakers for these languages, you will never get sufficient results. All other employees can't help you out. Translation software is useless, if you don't know how to weight the possible results from the cultural canon. A cyrillic reader expects to find the russian state library on top when looking for a lib, not the library of congress.

If you're in need of a good startup idea: Claim a patent for crossing fingers to build a luck generator.
