Congratulations Taimur! I started following you from your pod with your brother and was super interested in your foray into tech with a math background. It's great to see Causal take off over the years.

These damn math folks are out here trying to make everything multi- dimensional

The best test for language mastery is playing deception games like coup or Avalon while speaking the language.

Sorry I have no input on how to actually get to that stage, just had that shower thought one day.

Increase value for the shareholders taken to it's logical extreme. Just gotta increase the perceived value to the potential bagholders so the current bagholders can wipe themselves clean.

Possible answer to the Fermi paradox: the intelligent life self destructs.

I always imagined this to involve some spectacular explosions or mass war or lasers, etc .

But in our reality it's possibly going to be the men becoming recluses and jerking off to their AI girlfriends instead of choosing to act like leaders and keeping everyone in line so we can carry on to see the spectacular version of self destruction of humanity.

C'mon guys we can do better than that!

I know what you mean, but 90% is too low.

The Century of the Self. The individualistic attitudes have snowballed in severity over the generations to what we have now and probably have encountered many times in the past. You can't champion for being free to make individual decisions against the norm without acknowledging that lots of people will be making bad irreversible decisions. The norm was developed and able to propagate for a reason!

It's just that those who align strongly with a religious collective will consist of the majority because those values tend to allow humanity to exist for another generation to play another round of the infinite game of life and evolution. What the individualistic attitudes (taken to their extreme) solve for is to play at most a couple of rounds, but have a lot of fun to compensate for sacrificing the long term.

Sword of Damocles is a bitch and a half. Access to infinite pleasure is ineffective in the face of paranoia and misery since they don't cancel eachother out i.e they are not collinear vectors in mind-space.

Having access to Aurelius' cleaned up mind chatter is a blessing.

It's surprising how individualistic people are in developed countries. They are literally self-selecting themselves out of the gene pool! Just goes to show "smart" does not mean wise. Apparently making sure humanity doesn't continue on to the next generation isn't considered a moral responsibility. And they get salty wondering why religious communities will be the majority throughout time.

I guess these governments will just keep rolling the dice on immigration and hope that one day sustainable birth rate patterns will just follow suit. Great strategy /s

This is known in the running community as the MAF method or Zone 2 training and it is key to sustaining an injury minimizing habit of running.

Think about it this way, do you enjoy a nice long walk? Most people do. You also don't have to mentally prepare yourself to go on a walk. Do you enjoy a nice long sprint? Probably not. If you tried to do it every day you would have to mentally prepare yourself for the upcoming suck. That's a huge hurdle to making it a habit.

So why not try to find a sweet spot in between a walk and a sprint? Just build up speed gradually from a walk. Once you have days where you have to psyche yourself up to go for a run, you know you are going too hard. Going for a walk and going for an easy run should not be any different for you mentally, although you might have to take a shower after a run.

Hope anyone who has struggled with running in the past is able to regain confidence with this mindset

You will live a life of misery if you constantly compare your life to others' lives. Take it a step at a time and try to be better than you were the day before. Carmack lives in a different time, under a different environment with a different set of genes. He is an outlier through and through. Inferiority complex can push you to go past your own limits, but beating yourself up for "being interior" doesn't help.

Don't fret about factors that are not under your control. Social media and some video games are viruses pushed down by greedy unethical corporations that infect your mind to ignore your responsibilities by hijacking your attention. Sure, they can be good in some ways but those few positive side effects are not why they were created. Don't beat yourself for falling into the trap, but at the same time don't expect anything else to pull you out. You have to push yourself out.

Good thing is you have the ability and ambition to realize the farce and want to live a more rewarding life. Many don't realize and many more dont care to leave the passive plane of existence even once they do find out.

All the best.

You gotta dial in your sleep, exercise and diet first. Consult professionals about sleep, diet and exercise issues to confirm you are in a sustainable and effective routine.

If those three fundamentals don't improve anything, you should then consult a professional to help. If the professionals can't help then you can try out personal suggestions from others (like this thread). This is just the path in order of most-likely to least-likely solutions.

It is possible that you have an inherently bad memory. It seems like long-term memory from your post, but some more clarification would be good.

No sweat. Look into Anki flashcards and do all your note taking for things you want to memorize long term. For all other forms of notes, just have them easily accessible via search or time/date stamps. Gotta craft systems using reliable tools as crutches to improve on any innate abilities. I may not be able to dunk on a ten-feet basketball hoop, but I sure can with a trampoline!

Cheers, and I hope you find a reliable solution soon. You deserve it

The iron law of bureaucracy in action.

Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy states that in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people":

First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration.

Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc.

The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization.
