There is a deep fallacy in his argument. The academic learning of a language teaches almost nothing. The true challenge is not foreign vocabulary it is the reluctance to engage another culture, which is the prerequisite to learning any language. The author does not make this distinction possibly because he was stationed in a German-speaking country and assumes each language learner can mimic his learning process without his experience.
Often, one won't even attempt to learn a language unless you appreciate - or at least think you appreciate - the culture.

I checked out this plenty of fish website. It is amazing because most dating websites cannot get people to upload pictures of themselves. Plenty of Fish has broken the personal photo stigma.
The odd thing is that, according to their website, Plenty of Fish is actually hiring despite what is printed in the New York Times.
On face value, Plenty of Fish is a standard dating website (compare to OKCupid) which makes its success more impressive.
Nice graphic, but what does it show? Infographics tend to insinuate a conclusion and not state a conclusion. That is not good.

I read part of the Clay book. I am not interested in defining news to "make people think logically." Just the opposite, I expect people to think differently. I am interested reversing the tide of attention-seeking headlines which decreases focus on real news. If a reporter suggests a real news segment I am sure they will get shot down because the boss can see what articles make the most money, attention seeking articles. If the numbers are unreliable, the playing field becomes level since advertisers can no longer directly differentiate articles' popularity.

First, an engineer or scientist in Germany is not the same as an engineer/scientist in the US. The Bachelors degree (4 years of college), from what I hear, is almost non-existent in Germany where a Diploma is standard.

Many engineers and scientists in the US are immigrants. Herbert Hoover's, the only engineer/scientist president, parents or grandparents came from Germany. Their original name was Huber. Hoover's technocrats were discredited after the 1929 stock market crash.
From my knowledge and little experience in advocacy, politics is ahem ...politics. Your successes are more about knowing and coercing the right people, not really if the numbers add up. For instance, defunding a program to balance the budget, might cost you and your party their hold on power.
Look how many scientists and doctors were researching HIV/AIDS. Their effect was miniscule. The major investments did not come from scientist advocates. The investments into HIV/AIDS came largely because Gay and Lesbian activists (e.g. ACT-UP) pressured and coerced the pharmaceutical industry. The most infamous act being the real 1987 occupation and shutdown of Wall-Street which resulted in real concessions.

As for climate change due to pollution. Politicians can't single handedly change the climate, only a curtailing of the excessive consumption patterns of the public can do that. I think it's silly to point at "anti-intellectuals" as the source of climate change when 50% of the nation turns the air condition to 20C/68F when it is 30C/88F in the summer time. The air-condition being the most energy expensive item in the household.

The article is appealing. I think it can become better by using several arguments in case privacy does not resonate with a reader (e.g. financially exploiting personal information, building stronger social relations, how other countries use facebook alternatively), and listing viable middle-ground solutions (using aliases on facebook).

In Mexico, many people do not use their real names on Facebook partially because names (Jorge, Paula, Arturo, Pancho, Gomez, Ramirez, Rodriguez) are so common and using an alias makes it easier to find people.
2.Dont use your real information
I dont use my real info on facebook. My real friends should know my birthday and where I live.
3.Use privacy settings so strangers can not view your personal life.
I say this because, I quit facebook, then realized how popular it is as a form of communication these days for some demographic groups. I like letters and postcards, but I realize that's my preference

When you automate things you eliminate jobs. That is the key factor. Are you eliminating someone's work? Can they still be retrained? Greed is making money by directly disrupting someone's livelihood.

I wonder why there is not a clear statement what people want their countries to become. In other words, do we want a country that is super fast and efficient which includes eliminating "slow work", or a country where peoples jobs are preserved despite the potential technological advances.

Now, enough ancient references, there are surprisingly few books that deal with the introvert/extrovert issue. Please don't think eloquence is a skill that comes naturally. Clint Eastwood, Chris Rock, Emeril Lagasse and Johnny Carson have all been described as introverts. Learning this is like learning anything else, you will be able to critique other people once you learn.

Most Holloywood stars attend an interview class before they appear on TV. I learned this when a guest on the Jay Leno show said "Oh Mr.X helped you prepare for interviews, I went to him too. He's great isn't he?"
Unfortunately, I do not think there has ever been a book written about influence and social intelligence. The Carnegie courses are expensive - your work might pay for it - and I do not know if the focus has changed to a more business-oriented format. Hopefully Ms. Susan Cain's book is helpful in this regard.
