reliably run TensorFlow

What reliability issues are you having with TensorFlow on M1 Macs?

Good points about lack of cryptography in the current standards, but the fix there seems to be a function of profit: as long as NFT resales are up & to the right evidently security doesn’t matter

The rise of platforms like OpenSea are interesting because the solution seems to be disenfranchisement: if Chrome/iOS/Android had direct node access we wouldn’t need the OpenSea API calls to display the NFT images. But then you’re giving even more power to existing Google and Apple platforms.

The web3 platform wars begun have they…

Upvoting for the use of kabuki in explaining the melodramatic pantomime of crypto hype, if only we were all more artisanal in building out this nascent blockchain tech. Imagine if tcp/ip were invented today with all this pre-marketing by VCs

I think your question might be too broad. Segment your query into quadrants, deal type (transactional sales vs. strategic) and customer type (retail, smb vs. enterprise). Strategic enterprise selling is very different than transactional smb.

The internet is such a game-changer.

Yes but also portable, low-cost GPS enabled internet connected devices are a game-changer. I don't see how Uber or Lyft could exist prior to the iPhone pushing adoption of GPS.

"We have incurred significant losses since inception, including in the United States and other major markets. We expect our operating expenses to increase significantly in the foreseeable future, and we may not achieve profitability."

We have incurred significant losses since inception. We incurred operating losses of $4.0 billion and $3.0 billion in the years ended December 31, 2017 and 2018, and as of December 31, 2018, we had an accumulated deficit of $7.9 billion.

  Revenue: $11.2BB (2018) $7.9BB (2017) $3.8BB (2016)
  Growth: 3.3BB 4.1
  NetInc: 1.0BB -4.0 -0.3

But net income buoyed by Other income (expense), net [0]:
  Other: $4.99BB (2018) -0.02BB (2017) $0.14BB (2016)

What is that $4.99BB "Other" income?

Google Brain team homepage is a good general source of information [0], and the HotChips [1] conference is perhaps the best source for research information regarding latest ML ASIC designs from Google [2], Intel, ARM, Wave, IMG and others. Google TPU3 systems are discussed extensively, here [3].

We probably have abused the free plan and have been warned about >40 min calls but never disconnected. Builds loyalty.

Hi, we really liked the work that Matt and team did on YCDB.co, which was released on HN a few weeks ago, and created an open source clone of the site. We plan to fork this and use it as the basis for a similar website that's focused instead on the Japanese startup market and thought others might enjoy using it as a starting point. The clone site is built using React/Next, with Algolia and Firebase/Firestore data providers and is hosting using Firebase "clientless" cloud functions. The Ant Design React library was key to our rapid development and has been a joy to develop with.

I agree. Doing this now for 5G "mesh" based BTLE devices which I hope will drop dramatically in price. Working out low-cost PMIC, crystal and passive component compatibilities for US based chipsets is a bit of a regulatory issue, but the "clones" iterate so fast I expect them to have complete designs available by mid-2019 and hope to make the money on the software / data.

Thanks for posting this if nothing else as an counterpoint to the vitriol in other comments... perhaps the best example of their current work is a joint effort with a small city in Western Japan [0] which, from having visited this region of Japan, seems like a great benefit to the local community - economic and social. I hope this is the direction Joe Gebbia and team are heading.

Not sure why this isn't getting more votes, but it's a good avenue of research and the authors should be commended. That said, this approach to optimizing floating point implementations has a lot of history at Imagination Technologies, ARM and similar low-power inferencing chipsets providers. I especially like the Synopsys ASIP Design [0] tool which leverages the open-source (although not yet IEEE ratified) LISA 2.0 Architecture Design Language [1] to iterate on these design issues.

Interesting times...

Stripe Billing 8 years ago

Two nits... 1) on Safari 11.0.3 on MacOS 10.13.3, clicking on the Documentation link in the upper right leads to an HTML file download, not a valid link; 2) couldn't find where you can customize the invoice design within the UI or the docs?

Hope to move away from Wave Accounting to Stripe invoice, once I can match the design... thanks!

Forgive me but... we call them "trains," they run on time, rarely crash and usually go where we want them to -- once the government(s) agrees to build them that is!

Seriously I do wonder, though, if the design of townships like yours will be directly affected by the rise of AV's. It would seem to make sense for Waymo and others to effectively lease depots (holding pens?) for when you and your fellow travelers need to hail a car. Are you/we effectively trading your individual garage space for a collective AV parking lot on the outskirts of town? And whether that development would compare favorably to investing in more intercity trains?
