It happens when practitioners generalize theorems to scenarios that look similar but don't apply. The common pattern is misapplying an infinite set theorem to finite set case. If you don't know about the theorem in question to begin with, there is no way for you to misrepresent it.

This is actually a huge issue here, since the photo is a perfect replica of their tape design with very little additional creativity. Photographers do have to get rights if the stuff they photograph is the creative expression of others.

I would start with diagnosing and prescribing (possibly computer/statistics assisted) versus trying to tackle surgery first. I think you'll find that surgery is considered the hardest skill for a MD to obtain. Plus anyone getting cut up will want someone who REALLY knows what they are doing.

Importantly, the costs of our medical system relative to other systems will never be fixed until we fix this problem. But this is the hardest problem to fix, because nobody wants to talk about it. It's political suicide.
Part of this is because medical professors make a salary that is at least twice (and usually higher) what the next highest paid professor at a university makes. You fix the salary program across the board, and medical school will become cheaper as well.

I think an important lesson for any grad student is to learn to read through the bullshit in papers and try and understand what the authors actually did.
We actively work to make our writing hard to understand in this field. I do this all the time myself. I don't really need this complex looking equation to make my point. But if I don't have it in there a reviewer will think my writing is not academic enough. So there you have it. Once you go in realizing this is the case everywhere, it becomes a lot easier to understand academic papers.

I feel like the importance of China in machine learning is very hard to dispute these days. At least they are open about it, which is good for scientific development worldwide.
I always felt it was kinda unreal that a tiny plant barely larger then the surrounding grass can become a huge tree given enough time of poor lawn maintenance. It doesn't even seem to take very long until tree saplings gain the ability to do some damage to your lawn mower.

Agreed. I'll add that it is also worth noting current job openings don't mean "potential job openings". There is entire things we might not even be considering as a society simply because there is not enough people to consider it. I think this is the case in tech. So much of our society is lagging behind what current technical capability allows. I still have to fax paper forms sometimes. Why? The potential employment might be 10x, maybe even 100x what it is now. Just to keep entire industries even remotely up to date.

I wouldn't recommend for training. CPU's work just fine for low intensity inference. Especially online/interactive inference, these are situations where you pass in one example at a time. GPU excel when you pass data in continuous predictable batches.
