I know they say Ring devices are included in this. But can anyone confirm whether this applies to extremely old Ring devices? Mine can barely stay connected to my wifi, so wondering how it can reliably stay connected or send anything to Amazon's servers.

This is exactly what I was thinking. But notifications panel doesn't work for the use-case where OP wants to just check in on content that may not have been triggered by a notification.

This is a symptom of society thinking that social media is a necessity and somehow equivalent to the real world. It's not.

Not my intention for this to come off like a plug but Android has been doing this for quite a while now. It simply shows any process being ran as a silent notification and then goes away when it's done. I agree keeping a running log is probably unintuitive even for an advanced phone user but the way Android has pulled this off is surprisingly easy to wrap your head around.

Sending certified mail only can prove that something was sent. Doesn't necessarily mean that the mail you sent contained an opt-out notice.

For some people, there is no difference ultimately. Because it's not that they aren't doing anything malicious with the collected data now, it's about the fact that they CAN do it if they desire to (ethical or not) in the future--the data is being collected, stored (perhaps indefinitely), and will always be accessible. In a world where capitalism reigns, to think that any large corporate business would treat our data with the best care and in our bests interests seems a little silly. I have always held the belief that businesses are not people and it's reasonable to expect that businesses may not be inclined to always do the right thing, especially if it gains them more money and power.

God it really annoys me when journalist don't use commas in their headlines... Maybe the robots should start making the headlines.

No different than now, right? Technically there is no way (practically, anyway) to identify someone you're talking to over the phone for instance.

I think any training wheels or safeguards against specificity should be left up to the developer, not a plugin. And any issues that come up as a result from their lack of understanding of specificity is that developer's own problem--not yours. No offense, I know you may think of it as helpful, but this type of hand-holding for developers actually makes things worse for programmers and the coding community in general imo.
