I was still listening to Jim Ladd and Uncle Joe on Sunday nights… maybe 15-20 years ago. They’d play a whole album, say Dark Side of the Moon and tell all the stories about it, sometimes even with recorded interviews they’d done.

Unskippable? I turned the station at the first sign of commercial, and still do. If one of those "radio-wide commercial minutes" per hour, I'd try the public station, or made a selection from the ten-disc changer. ;-)

Nowadays I have a USB drive, though I understand that's rare. Can hardly find a (car) radio that supports modern sizes these days, probably by design.

I hope they improve the UI, it has been difficult to use. Several menus with different random functionality that don’t have the options I’m looking for. Many times I have to hunt through the extension preferences to do simple things.

Also the “temporary container” extension is quite useful and closer to what I need in the first place.

My Turbo Pascal programs could calculate and print to the screen faster than could be read, on a 486. With DOS however.

I picked the P90 because I remember running Linux ~1.0 and/or NT on it, with real multitasking and services etc. Those soaked up many of the cycles.

Another story, around Y2k/Win2k was asked to write a C program to record all the files/sizes on the C: in to file. Then something would be installed, my program run again, and the results diffed. Despite thousands of files the program was done before the enter key came back up. Boss told me that he thought the program was cheating.

That’s just how fast modern computers are these days, I said. When running C code anyway. That perf is still available today, compare astral’s uv to slow competitors. Just takes some investment, though probably less when boosted by VC bionics.

Neat I did this on real hardware twenty plus years ago. Also tried Debian, iirc. My memory is that the workstation perf was decent but the thing was loud and used a lot of power. x86 emulation was slow. The nick, Itanic was mostly deserved.

Can’t render a scene from a command line? Should be doable for anything running on Unix. Need to have the assets available however.

Traditional CADT means features get lost over time.

It is not immune from these forces, just not a focus by the powers that be. Fewer developers remember the good old days of Y2Kas as well, meaning they don’t resist these forces instinctively, since they grew up in iOS captivity.

Definitely not true in California, as I already mentioned. Approx 1/3 of cars here. Slow charging is not intensive and if the utility needs more capacity they’ll build it. Like for data centers.

Light poles are being tapped in the neighborhood for EV and surveillance already.

The great thing about the utility market is that they don’t need your permission to invest. They’ll do it when it becomes profitable, i.e. already.
