I love desktop linux. I've used it on and off since 2000. Even with Valve's excellent work on gaming, there's still whole software categories that require Windows. Pro audio software is very Windows reliant and I don't see it changing. If you're a software developer, there are many benefits to using and deeply learning linux. But even as a linux super-geek, I don't expect to ditch Windows entirely any time soon.

Excellent write up! I also have a G15 (GA503RM), and the post made me wonder if I ought to be doing this as well. The temperature improvement makes a strong case. How much of a danger is the (nearly) escaping liquid metal on the CPU? Is this is something that could be frying a lot of Zepheri if it's not addressed?

this is resolved in 555 (currently running 555.58.02). my asus zephyrus g15 w/ 3060 is looking real good on Fedora 40. there's still optimizations needed around clocking, power, and thermals. but the graphics presentation layer has no issues on wayland. that's with hybrid/optimus/prime switching, which has NEVER worked seamlessly for me on any laptop on linux going back to 2010. gnome window animations remain snappy and not glitchy while running a game. i'm getting 60fps+ running baldurs gate 3 @ 1440p on the low preset.

Israeli settlers are conducting a pogrom against Palestinians with the protection/participation of IDF soldiers as we speak. In one incident, 2 in the West Bank were shot and killed by settlers while attending a funeral.

On Tuesday, settlers torched an empty Palestinian house in the village of Masafer Yatta, in the southern Hebron Hills, and hurled rocks at homes there and in the nearby hamlet of Tuba.

Hamas isn't Hitler/Nazis, this is an insane analogy. Israeli elites prefer Hamas to secular political resistance of the Palestinians:

Despite its enmity with Hamas, Israel has, over the years, viewed it as a useful counterweight to Fatah. The Israeli right, in particular, has viewed the bitter Hamas-Fatah rift as a guarantee that Palestinian leadership will never unite in support of a peace agreement, or even a unified front to demand Palestinian independence. https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-10-09/ty-article/.p...

Also, YES it is wrong to do collective punishment to civilians in retaliation for their political leadership. What the Allies did to Dresden is widely and rightly regarded as an atrocity: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/13/world/europe/dresden-germ...

Hopefully people are coming to understand there is no such thing as "international law" and therefore no such thing as "war crimes". There is no enforcer of justice at the international level. There are only gangster states with gigantic militaries who impose their will on everyone else. Every bomb Israel drops on a Palestinian baby is bankrolled by the US. No international body has the capacity to stop the US or Israeli military from bulldozing Palestine. If there were, Dick Cheney and George W Bush would've been tried by the ICC.

Regular people need to organize oppositional political institutions: primarily parties and unions to fight for the interests of regular people against these 1% ghouls. What's needed is a revolutionary struggle against our respective national ruling classes, with an international collaboration that will eventually make obsolete national boundaries.

The headline borrows from Marx for radical cred, but all of Doctorow's ideas are from the anarcho-liberal school of permanent impotence.

He spends the first 2000 words talking about how industry bribed the government to set unjust, inhumane policies on copyright, reverse-engineering, antitrust. Then in the 2nd half, all his tech proposals have to do with alternative tech solutions: federation, mastodon, driver coop apps, etc.

The problem with big tech is just capitalism. You don't fight capitalism with new apps. You fight capitalism with an independent political movement of workers. This movement wouldn't even be a tech-oriented movement because most people rightly don't give a fuck about tech.

We have to fight the political power of Musk and Zuckerberg by cutting off their ability to make profit. This happens through organizing in the workplace, and with a WORKERS PARTY opposed to the capitalist duopoly.

It would be stupid to be "against" competing stores on PC. PC is an open platform anybody can write any code they want on it. It's just a fact that Steam is the only good one by a mile. As long as all the others are dogshit, games exclusive to those stores may as well not exist.
