We're doing this sort of tracking in a Telegram group. We just send messages with a well-defined structure:

    <category code> <time> <optional description>
e.g.
    S 2000
    W 0800
    F 0900 banana
    P 1010
    ...

    (S = sleep, W = wake up, F = food, P = poop, etc.)
Every few months I copy paste the messages from Telegram into a text file and have a script to parse, clean it up and add the dates. Would be fun to try some data science on the past few years of this data.. at some point :)

Coincidentally I have the Oura ring too, and my sleep HRV oscilates around 100ms; haven't compared with a strap in the morning though. Strange that you get such low values, maybe something faulty with the ring, or finger placement? It's possible also that the absolute values are not extremely accurate, but the relative trends are. Garmin for example requires a strap to measure HRV stress, even though the watch has an optical HR sensor, which leads me to think optical sensors are not so precise.

What an amazing improvement to 4:30 pace at 140 bpm btw! I've had a similar relative improvement over the first year when I think about it, from around 7:00 to 5:20-5:30 at 140 bpm. But my training was mostly 1km intervals at high end of zone 3 (still quite below threshold), translating to a lot of tempo running on average, plus one session of 200s or 400s faster intervals per week. Been stuck with little progress for a while though, and was thinking to try a more polarized approach like yours with higher volume; thanks for explaining it!

I do a lot of running as well and have observed the same effects. After anaerobic sprints or a race of up to 10k, sleep HRV drops / HR is higher and running HR:pace is elevated for up to a week. However, usually this is then followed by some improvement in all of these metrics compared to the baseline before the hard workout. Anaerobic exercise builds/maintains especially fast-twitch muscles, and higher muscle mass has positive influence on many health markers; as we get older we slowly lose muscle mass, but the losses are predominantly fast-twitch muscles [1]. So I believe anaerobic workouts are very important, despite causing quite some stress temporarily. Totally agree they require a lot of recovery inbetween.

Unrelated, out of curiosity, when you say 80% of your training: is it in mileage/time? Or some effort metric like TRIMP, calories, avg. HR, or so? Or something else?

You cannot automatically conclude that rasdaman comes on top because the author is also involved in its development, although it may be suspicious. I am also one of the authors and contributed to doing the benchmarks: our goal was to configure and implement the queries in the best way for each system and achieve comparable results. Note that this report was done almost three years ago, the results may be getting out of date.

This query language that looks like SQL is an official part of SQL now [1]. Surely there is place for integrated DB solutions that let you work with both relational and array data in one place? There are more benefits in this than just performance/scalability. Think of building services on top of big array datasets, beyond one-off data science experiments.

The largest I've worked with until now is a bit over 0.5TB. It's still performing as well as if it was a few GB.

It's unusual in South-East Europe in my experience. It's far more common to eat Bulgarian yogurt instead.

Does pasteurization have any effect on the hormones? It deactivates enzymes, maybe it does the same to hormones?

There are dedicated GPS devices (by TomTom, Garmin, etc) which are much cheaper than smart phones. In the past they provided a far better experience too, I'm not sure how they compare to Google Maps nowadays though.

It's rss-compliant in case you want to subscribe, and has no analytics tracking nonsense. Posting frequency has been extremely low so far, however. Even though the end result is usually rewarding, producing posts has been seriously time consuming. But I'm thinking every now and then to restart it.

The study was only done on members of American Mensa, I wonder if there would be any difference across countries.

I'm from a poor European country; in high school (~15 years ago) I measured 156 in a Mensa IQ test, a friend had 168, and a third friend 172. We were top students in the generation, going to programming and math competitions. Definitely not in the popular kids club, but otherwise perfectly normal as far as I can tell. In the couple of Mensa meetings I've been to back then I have not really seen any of the mental or physical disorders considered in the study either.

The SDS011 with firmware from luftdaten.info seems to work in this mode by default: sensor is turned on for 20 seconds for measurement at every 150 seconds interval. This should be tunable though. The theoretical lifetime is 8000 hrs of continuous operation, so they estimate 6-7 years longevity in this default mode.

Is it 2/3 though? With the assumptions below it comes out to about 40% of waking time:

- 8 hours of work + 2 hours of commute / 5 days per week

- weekend 2 days per week

- 20 days of vacation + 5 public holidays per year

An alternative to bouldering is sport climbing. I find it offers a much better balance between the physical and mental parts.

Bouldering routes are only a couple of moves so the focus tends to be on raw power; climbing routes are longer and require more time planning and developing an optimal/working strategy, which can be more engaging and interesting.
