I’m glad people are looking into this because I do think it’s the future. However, why would you not take advantage of the heavily subsidized frontier models while you can. It’s obvious that they’re gonna have to raise prices at which point it might make sense to consider local models, but not today.

What do people get out of this kind of spam? How does having AI regurgitate another post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48553975) benefit them?

Not my experience. I have iPad Pro and I only use it for workouts. It sits on my workout machine and once or twice a week I try to watch a ~45 min episode while doing cardio. It’s always dead and needs constant charging. Never last more than 3 days without needing charging.

Isn’t idea of insurance at odds with the idea of a pre-existing condition? Like car insurance is a hedge against a crash. We don’t let people buy it after totaling their car.

We really need an alternative system to cover pre-existing and not force it into insurance.

I actually don’t want the Windows aesthetic, but for my older family members, I recommend Linux Mint. For those more technical who still prefer a Windows-like UX, stock Ubuntu with ArcMenu w/ Eleven layout and Dash to Panel with Windows 11 Theme & Icon pack.

I run Windows daily at work on a 60Hz display. I recently got my son a gaming PC complete with a 144Hz monitor. I was genuinely confused why Windows itself “felt” so much better. Just dragging windows around seemed like magic. It’s not that the UI is lagging on my machine, it’s more the smoothness of things when they move around. It makes everything seem faster, despite us timing various things and finding no actual performance differences.

+ $4,000 to bump to 512GB from 96GB.

I had no idea Nord offered that and we’ve used them for years.
