I wish it were the case. But please analyse majority of the top posts in HN with an open mind. One can clearly see the connection SV --> Funding --> YC --> TC. The outsiders are treated or ignored like pariahs. Have you heard a term "Made in SV". It may be subtle. But it is there.

I am offering an alternative suggestion to a person who is not happy with dropbox's customer service. He/she has the smarts to decide whether a new service is worth a try. My affiliation is irrelevant. Can u guarantee the readers who downvoted me are not affiliated with dropbox or positively biased towards dropbox. You are no different from the dropbox forum moderators.
Check out Tonido Cloud (http://www.tonido.com/cloud/) and host your own dropbox.
Another alternative is Tonido. Install Tonido in your computer and stream music and videos to iOS and Android devices. No need to port forwarding. It simply works. You can even stream your iTunes playlist.
Once the data leaves your device, it is all business. There is nothing much you can do about it.
Vine is a Privacy nightmare
I must say Ghostbuster is awesome.
Seems like Tonido Sync (http://www.tonido.com/app_sync_home.html)
Use personal cloud like Tonido (http://www.tonido.com). With public cloud services, once data leaves your device there is no guarantee. Good thing is there are options.
As a lawyer, you have professional obligations to protect your client's confidential information. Storing it in a public cloud services provides unfettered govt access if they choose to. I hope u heard about the petraeus Incident.
I am stating the facts here. If you have anything to refute the facts let us talk about that. So what is your interest in Dropbox?
There are many reasons:
1. Security 2. Dropbox is not suitable for professionals like Lawyers, Accountants, Tax professionals and Healthcare providers 3. EU and Canada Data privacy laws require certain companies to store data inside the country 4.You cannot brand dropbox for your business. You can brand Tonido. 5.You cannot run dropbox in your domain. With Tonido you can.
Do you want more reasons?
You should check out Tonido Sync (http://www.tonido.com/). It will solve your security, sync, multi-user and LAN switch requirements.
Point well made. We operate our tonido relay server across the world using linode, softlayer, herztner and it currently supports couple of million devices and half a million users. In the last 2 years our downtime is less than 30 minutes. It is nil for end users since they migrate to the nearest relay server hosted offered by a different provider.
SPOF,security and control are the major issues with Iaas and pass offerings.
SPOF, security and control are the major problems for the Iaas and pass.
You might want to add Tonido (http://www.tonido.com) to your toolset for file sharing. It works great.
Are you saying the usability of these apps don't matter. Atleast I care about the slideshows. Music playing is very rudimentary in dropbox. Tonido scores better when it Comes to music -plays flac.
Thanks for the Info.
It looks like you need to pay for the Owncloud mobile apps. Little confused about the free software claim. I am nothing against paying for a good software.
When it become not acceptable to charge money for a software service. Tonido is a mature offering and works. Customers are ready to pay money for its worth. I would rather choose a software that will charge money for it rather than a free one.
Tonido Sync (http://www.tonido.com/app_sync_home.html) provides the same private, local sync like AeroFS. the Tonido solution is very mature and it also has mobile apps for all the popular mobile OSes (iOS,Android, Blackberry and Windows 7.5)
Few years back, this guy (Ramar Pillai) fooled the whole country and if i remember correctly even got the audience from Indian PM and State Chief Minister. Probably the best pitch ever :).
He claimed he can turn water into fuel using some herbs :).

Probably one of the best article i have read in recent times. I cannot agree enough. I have been struggling with this problem for last 3 years. It is not really easy. Trying meditation is a good idea or going to mountains.
I think this problem applies to only certain personality types like ENFP. In my opinion, Not all may be able to relate to the article.
I recommend TonidoPlug. It runs debian squeeze and comes with complete ssh. You can also boot it directly from 2.5 inch SATA disk and install additional packages using apt.
It has good reviews in amazon as well: http://www.amazon.com/TonidoPlug-Network-Attached-Storage-Pe...
Just install Tonido (http://www.tonido.com/application_download.html) on top of your slackware and make it a personal cloud. You will thank me after the fact :).
This should not be a default option. I accidently found out after reading an article in YC. So creepy.
Here is one alternative: http://www.tonido.com/app_torrent_home.html. Manage your torrents from anywhere.
I agree. Sharing can be a pain if you have crappy upload bandwidth. I use timewarner extreme internet. That works out very well.
If you can figure out facebook timeline, twitter hash tags and dropbox sync you can figure out personal server too. If there is a will there is a way. All you need is awareness.
If you find running a personal server too difficult try tonido or any of those plug computers. You don't need to take my word. Just try and see. You will be pleasantly surprised.
It works out for me. Because 70% of my access happens within my home from different devices and i get to use my gigabit connection in the LAN. I think for many users it is the right setup (Unless otherwise you are a traveling salesperson).
