There is something absolutely oddly satisfying about using this app. Though there are a handful of channel -- this feels far more "bounded" that using Youtube as is. I spend so much more time on YT over other streaming services and platforms (and have YT premium too). I feel YT natively does a very terrible job of presenting "recommendations" to me. I can't put my finger on what it is, but your cable TV style wrapper feels very home :) Couple of questions

- How did you achieve the grainy cable TV style texture on your videos ?

- Are the videos curated ? Sometimes I waste a lot of time looking for quality content, or sometimes its good quality but you just don't vibe with the presenter or their style - so you continue to click around.

Just looked through the list. Some of them are sort of interesting, but they seem to be on the extreme - either its a large open source projects like PyTorch etc., or .. its a hobby android app.

Same for me too! I have been looking for a project to contribute to, but I haven't been able to find something thats interesting.

May be coming up with a list for people like us in itself could be something.

completely correct, but I dont think thats where OP is coming from or what the article intends to suggest either. Its recommending that you try multiple things, get a feel for whats technically feasible & if it looks interesting to the customer and push that forward. Its very well applicable to indie devs & also applicable to large companies to some extent. This philosophy is great to identify the feature/product you want to spend meaningful time on.

In fact, one could wager that the situation you described is directly a consequence of not adhering to what OP is suggesting.

I m not sure if this is fully accurate though, especially about Japan and South Korea part. Both of them have demonstrated solid economic prowess in the last few decades & if you ignore a few decades of colonial interlude and look back further - they still have had sound economies in previous centuries. I think Singapore , Taiwan and even may be UAE are missing from this list ( depending on how much further back in history you are looking at).

I think "mid-century modern" captures the design aesthetics.

Hmm, How effective is this? I recently watched ICARUS and I have been reading a lot about doping and how athletes circumvent the tests done by WADA labs ( World Anti Doping Agency). I have a couple of questions regarding this and in no particular order of importance

(1) Should a state decide to implement something like this, isn't this some sort of privacy violation by the state? People could have been prescribed these Anabolics by a physician too, don't they also come under the scanner?

(2) Also, I don't clearly understand the sampling here, tons of gallons get pumped into the wastewater system. How much quantity of samples would be collected for testing purposes? and what is the frequency of these samples being collected?

(3) Please totally excuse my ignorance here, the major banned substances for which athletes have been banned are "Methylhexaneamine", "Methenolone","Oxandrolone", and a lot of "Stanozolol" and "Turinabol" ( I m getting all this from this wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doping_at_the_Olympic_Games#Di...). The table in the paper doesn't seem to mention any of these substances. Are they mentioned under a different name?

(4) Also, in the light of new information (ie) state-sponsored doping, Lance Armstrong escaping some 500 Lab tests & going completing uncaught by WADA and so many other labs around the world, as a spectator I already know that a ton of Olympic athletes are doping. Isn't the actual problem trying to prove that "individual" athletes are doping? A collective evidence is probably not as useful anymore since all watchdogs, sports committees and spectators are more skeptical from the get go.

Hello - I am a pretty decent user of financial apps , I use - Mint extensively , - Personal Capital to a fairly decent amount. - Also use an App called "Clarity Money" that was launched recently. - Experian & CreditSesame for credit scores.

Could you explain the finance "coach" aspect of your app ? I have been in several situations where I wish one of these apps had told me a particular financial pro-tip & I have always felt let down. How would your app exactly be a coach ?

This correlation is not always true, an in emerging markets, this correlation is almost always wrong. Access to Smart phones unfortunately doesn't always mean the availability of banking infrastructure OR the presence of a cashless economy . For example -

- Android phones are dominant in this market, since local manufacturers are able to sell cheap phones without incurring any software development cost.

- Telecommunication sector is heavily privatized in these markets & generally have multiple players offering low cost "pre-paid" services. Recharge stations and mobile stores are pretty ubiquitous - small mom & pop shops double up as resellers of these services , providing last mile coverage.

- On the contrary, Banking infrastructure is so heavily state run. And they don't have the same level of 'ease of access'. So, a lot of people working in the "unorganized sector"(Note: This is an official terminology that governments recognize and use) don't have formal accounts in financial institutions.

- Even if they did, a good number of banks run decade old tools and softwares. Making it all the more difficult to do mobile & online banking .

- And also, most of these economies are not cashless. Culturally and for other reasons,there is more trust on "Paper Cash".

- Finally , just because a person owns a cheap smart phone & ,one cannot assume banking literacy.

I believe this is a YC backed startup and there was some press around the time of the initial Demo Day. Looks like they have a brand new website , and seems to have pivoted to just one geographical market. A lot of HN crowd said this would totally work in Europe as well. Has anyone used this service so far ?
