What I don't understand is where is the memory? How does GPT-3 or ChatGPT remember so much information with just that architecture? It would seem that the maximum it could remember is 2048 words.

I'm fairly sure GPT-3 can't do any of that, because it was trained only with text. That is, it was trained without the context we are exposed to. Now imagine if it was trained with a body (similar sensors to what we have) in the real world. I'm not so sure we wouldn't get something indistinguishable from a human.

Regarding unfalsifiable, from [0] "If engineers ever succeed in making such quantum computers, it seems to me that the CAT is falsified; no classical theory can explain quantum mechanics." By "such quantum computers" he means computers that can run Shor's algorithm. Depends on the community. For research, check your local university. You can ask around in relevant departments. Don't be afraid, some researchers are more than happy to collaborate.

I did something like you. I also faced many of your issues and to solve it, I was also super focused on me, me, me. Trying to be better, more motivated, healthier, more exercise, better sleep etc etc.

Now that I know myself better, I realize I need to be integrated in a community with similar objectives, even when doing individual work. Otherwise, creative and/or research work is too demanding. However, everyone is different.

I don't know anything about you or your relationship, but in my experience that is not how a healthy relationship works. The couple decides together what is best for both. So right there that seems like a huge red flag. Another thing is. Have you talked with her about your difficulties? Finally, it's probably a good idea to talk to a therapist (or a good friend) to get some outside perspective. Hope you get better soon.

There is no need for that, people just act on their perceived best interest, and when you have the top ~1000 people controlling almost every asset, isn't it obvious that they will dictate the course of history?

Fisetin among others seems to have some promise, however how much this will impact lifespan is unknown. Fisetin probably not much, partial reprogramming (OSKM etc) maybe a bit more.

The more I look at software from the 80-90s, even the 60s the more it seems it has barely moved in terms of capabilities.

SOLID is over used and over-stated, but they were invented to stop certain set of problems.

The problem is, when was it ever shown they solve any problem? Where are the measurements showing less dev time or less bugs or better performance? Where even is an algorithm to show your software is SOLID? People can't even agree on what those mean.

Exactly. I'm very surprised by this article and all the comments that apparently didn't bother to go check historical data and immediately started looking for causes (they are lazy! It's management! It's inequality etc). But it seems the article is really about the fear of losing no. 1 place to China as can be seen in the conclusion: "the productivity slowdown of the past decade and a half has left the U.S. economy in a weaker position"

Depends a bit on how long you want to be out of a job. However if you want to do this for some months/years, then consider investing in relationships. Either creating new or strengthening existing ones.

Whatever you decide to do, if you don't have people that can (and want to) accompany you during this time, this is just a recipe for loneliness and depression.

And yet, look at x86. Still going strong after 40 years. There is absolutely no reason we could not have a standard instruction set for GPUs. OpenGL is just the wrong abstraction. Same for Vulkan.
