This paper is in Scientific Reports, which is published by Nature but is not regarded as a top-tier journal. It has an impact factor of 5.5 vs. 41 of Nature.
But I would say that "selling the science" occurs more often for high-profile journals because the authors need to convince the reviewers that the paper has a significant impact. Papers in more field-specific journals tend to write conservatively.
No, that's standard boilerplate these days in papers. You have to "sell" the science a bit to reviewers and connect your work to the broader picture. Those in the field usually ignore statements like this.

The images in this article are awful: generic shots and captions of a machine shop; a (possibly empty) black box that's supposed to be a testing machine. Where are the actual machines doing the tests? Where's the science?

That was the argument before Snowden, but we now know that the government passively records and stores as much information as possible on anyone. So they can build a secret file on anyone should they feel like it. And they'll use every piece of information at their disposal (private family life, shopping and travel habits, what websites you browse, what media you consume, etc.) to profile you. Ever download a copyrighted file or view pornography? That will be used against you.
But the equivalent resistance always decreases as the grid of resistors increase. I don't see how having "fewer paths would result in a large flow".

The problem with reducing the mass of the non-Li portion of the battery is that all of the practical candidates for the anode are metal oxides (e.g. Co, Fe, Mn oxides). Unless the whole metal oxide motif is replaced, you can't really achieve significant mass savings. There are research groups and startups working on alternate anode and cathode materials but there are tradeoffs in power density and safety. Also given that these approaches are still in the research phase, it'll take at least a couple of years before they reach commercial testing.

I agree with others here who recommend learning how to code.
But instead of chasing the latest trends in frameworks, I would recommend learning ruby on rails instead. It's a mature framework that is still very popular. Learning it instills good principles that you carry over when learning future frameworks.

True, but there's at least one really expensive component of electric cars that needs replacement every 8 to 10 years: the battery. I think the current price is about $10000 for the battery if you order from Tesla in advance.

Because this stuff already existed in the ground (just not as concentrated), is not as toxic as radioactive waste, and can be recovered and reused. Nuclear waste generates new highly toxic substances that are extremely dangerous. And even after the waste has "decayed", the products are still toxic (just not radioactive) and last forever.
Just collect and store. They can be purified and have commercial use. Otherwise, since they came from the earth in the first place, storing it back in the earth doesn't change the amount of toxins we have in the ground.
Well, the difference between chemical toxic waste is that there are accessible methods for making it non-toxic. It's just a matter of cost. For example, toxic organic and inorganic compounds can be thermally decomposed. For organics, you create elemental carbon. For inorganics (containing metal ions), you can reform the metal and collect it. Acid/base waste can be neutralized. You can't really do that for radioactive material except trying to accelerate the decay. And while chemical waste can often be handled with standard safety measures, radioactive waste is just too dangerous to work with.
I see your point. I think one needs to consider both the danger of the waste and the amount of it generated. Then try to find a good balance.
Ha, that must have been a long time ago. Around 2009 Bill would wear a beret all the time. I don't think his drawings were that detailed anymore, but his orbitals were still "pooched".

Really neat project. One suggestion: Put bitrate and filesize information in search results so that the user can make a decision based on the quality of the file.
