I hope people don't see this and think it was the same submission that was put up when Fred Wilson first published his piece. This is a great comment to that post and offers more helpful information than the original post.

ummmm, huh? They've always compared OSX (which only run on a handful of Apple exclusive devices) and windows OSes in the exact same way. No market share report I've ever seen phrases it as "iphone vs android OS". It is always iOS phones vs Android OS phones or iOS tablets vs android tablets. I don't understand what "truth" is being uncovered here.

I've been reading posts about how the "decline of HN" has begun since I began lurking here 2 years ago. Everyone relax, everything will be alright.

X does not imply porn if there is only 1 of them.

To me this is a decent name for a dev shop or someone that offers technical B2B service.

If you want to do something that would appeal to the average person, I'd look for something a little more "natural langageish".

I'm having trouble understanding what you are asking for. You want a community of hackers to help you get over your fear of becoming a billionaire?

If you are worried about your PageRank number, your priorities are off. Be worried about your actual search traffic. If that has not dropped off, there is not cause for concern.

As far as advice goes, I'll stick with the default white hat advice: Improve your search traffic by building as much good original content you can and form relationships with other quality relevant sites that lead to backlinks.

I do not understand the demand for this service so I would have a hard time analyzing this too much.

One thing that sticks out at me, your masthead banner is a dorky guy making a dorky face holding a phone. It should be an attractive male or female (preferably one of each) making a genuinely nice smile. You want the person to look like something that average guy or girl would actually want to receive a telephone call. I would not ever want to receive a phone call from your current model for any reason.

Raising awareness is also a largely bullshit concept. It is the banner people who accomplish absolutely nothing waive around to feel like they've accomplished something. The only time it is valuable is when awareness is being raised about previously unknown information (which is what Wikileaks does).

Also, the argument is not silly. You absolutely lose something by taking 2 minutes of the 34,790,000 minutes or so you have. You lose 2 minutes. The better use of those 2 minutes in support of Wikileaks would be looking for a new leak or more realistically, circulating information that they've recently leaked.

I don't really get worked up over stuff like this this, it is just an arbitrary title assigned by one publication owned by a massive conglomerate. These are time waster debates. Any time spent debating whether Assange should have won it could just be spent actually helping the Wikileaks movement. Fighting actual problems > fighting for worthless awards.

I don't understand your question. Whats the issue here?

I had a similar but more generic idea. People could share routes and rate them for what they are good for (ie motorcycles, seeing autumn foliage, straightaways good for speeding, etc). Glad to see someone doing this and would love to see you expand it further.

My advice: Don't give people a search box and return an error if you are going limit them to certain areas. You should either:

Remove the search box and showcase the limited content that you do have with a message which areas are coming next

or

Leave the search box open to any input and then prompt users to add their own routes in regions you do not currently have content for.

I'd also recommend a subscribe feature, so I can be alerted when new routes are added for cities that I am interested in.

EDIT: I'd also think about adding a feature that showcases key interest points along routes (The view at this point is amazing or try the peach cobbler at so and so diner).

Good luck

I'm unclear on what you mean by "sell idea". Do you literally mean that you want to tell someone your (non-patented) idea for money and then they build the company and you walk away? That does not happen. No one is going to pay just to hear your idea and once they heard it there is nothing preventing them from just using it.
