Unsure about the entire US... For my area they were called "window fans" in previous times. Before air conditioning was prevalent, you'd use these box fans, placed in the window, to circulate air to provide a more comfortable environment.
In years past, the fans were beefier than the current generation. They also used metal fins. Speaking into one made a vaguely similar effect to speaking Like Darth Vader. It was entertaining as a child.

Works great, depending on what you want to do. Running on SBCs or computers with cheap sata cards will greatly reduce the performance. It's been running well for years after I found out the issues regarding SMR drives and the SATA card bottlenecks.

Ease of maintenance, as Tomte mentioned.When you have multiple configurations for different sites, it is simpler to isolate the specifics to each site to their own files.
If you're just standing up a single, simple site with Apache, it can be 'easier' to do so with the basic config. Once you get into production environments, the Debian framework is something to be thankful for.
One can be happy for the devs and founders but also lament the loss of a great product.
All certifications are only useful to those coming into the industry. CCIE was once highly regarded, but it's in the same place now, unless some old-time contract has a clause still embedded about a cert being needed.
