I’ve always found it amusing how much world leaders actually use Twitter for communications. The fact that a private citizen can purchase the platform and do whatever they want with it is exactly why it’s a bad idea.

Not to mention this is a lame way to increase signups and AU metrics, holding a gun to an old person’s head.

Same experience ordering Lucky brand jeans… from Lucky themselves! Same exact model would result in different material composition / origin country. It could be 0-2% spandex/100-98% cotton or something. I wound up making a little spreadsheet to try to figure out which ones I liked the best (origin country, materials)

Notepad is crap in Windows 11. I wanted a stupid simple way to put crap into a scratchpad (often times) and now it tries to outsmart me with multiple windows/tabs, maintaining state, spellchecking. I’ve disabled everything I can in it. It’s merely tolerable now.

They should have kept Wordpad and added all the crap into that.

I have no doubt some of the benefits are definitely to be able to resell or access that data once again. I literally just told someone yesterday “don’t pay for domain privacy, any registrar worth a damn will include it anymore”

Yeah, denying because it means more profits isn't okay. The fact that these insurance companies are publicly traded and have to maximize value for shareholders creates even more of the wrong incentives.

These should be not-for-profit entities, with appropriate controls.

I have had to ask non-technical people this and they're confused beyond belief.

Ziply was amazing. Fios was always great from Verizon to Frontier to Ziply.

They've spent so much on celebrity endorsements and so many of the Subways near me suffer from quality control issues. The one closest to my house cannot get a single order correct. Delivery drivers get frustrated waiting even when it's not busy. It's supposed to be 24 hours, but is closed at random times and is simply just unreliable all around.

It's like everything else, profits have been prioritized over everything else. There's simply no reason they have to be in trouble other than greed - overexpansion, advertising a ton but not enforcing quality (which is probably cheaper, but not useful)

I don't care who some famous sports players pretend to like, I want something I can depend on. Subway is the McDonald's of sub sandwiches. They've done so many menu changes and got rid of one of my favorite things, and their reshuffling and rebranding drives me nuts.

Yeah. F'ing go! is what I assumed.

I'm not making any judgements on that CHIPS money yet, because it is a long term investment.

It is a bit funny though, that they mentioned how CHIPS would create 10k jobs, and they just dropped 15k. Kind of convenient number shuffling there. Still a net loss of 5k, in the end. :)

I use a handful of YoLink devices which use LoRa for their connectivity and I have to say it does seem reliable, one single hub covers my entire house whereas 3 Eero Pro 6E mesh APs still don't have that "ease" of coverage (of course, they're capable of a lot more bandwidth) but it seems like LoRa seems like the perfect option for IoT stuff, at minimum. Don't see many things using it though.

Anyone else in awe at all the infrastructure, systems, etc that were setup especially due to the Cold War? Things like Operation Looking Glass, keeping a staffed plane in the air, 24/7/365 for nearly 30 years, all these kind of hardening projects, it's crazy to me how much work and how many decades it spanned.

And that's just the stuff we now can openly read about. I can't imagine all the systems and redundancies in place right now... but probably a lot more digital with analog backup only.

Xbox Live was totally messed up earlier, I bet it's related.

This began a lot more on third party sites like stubhub due to Covid and the massive amount of cancellations; before most places paid out after the sale, and if the buyer wound up having an issue (due to the seller mistake, selling it multiple times, whatever) they would charge the seller and usually assess a penalty.

But when everything in the world was being cancelled I assume they didn't have all the money just sitting around to reverse and it was a ton of thrash to deal with. As someone who had bought tons of tickets and sold some, it was a mess. I had a ton of credit card refunds back, the third party sites had to reverse payments, etc.

Waiting until after the event is just less overhead. Guarantees the transaction happened without a hitch.

There are some POS and broker sites that still pay on transfer, but none of the "primary" secondary market does.
