SoTA means "State of the art". I wish it didn't take me 5 minutes to figure out what SoTA stands for.

I'm living this hell right now.

Management just keep hiring developers. Coordination and communication between them and product managers gets more difficult.

Management keep agreeing to unrealistic timelines on new projects, yet haven't completed the old projects yet.

The architecture of the codebase is so convoluted and confusing that new devs take a very long time to get anywhere close to productive and self sufficient. Time to develop and release acceptable features gets longer and longer.

On top of all that, senior devs and tech leads are very up tight about code quality and 'how to write your code' yet can't even agree with each other on 'how to write your code' leading to Pull Request hell for devs and occasional whole week rewrites.

I'd buy a copy of this book and put it on my bosses desk, but he won't read it.

What an ugly UI update. I usually don't mind too much about the changes in MacOS UI and visuals, but opening up Finder leaves me shocked that this actually got the green light. Who in their right mind looked at this and thought: "yep that's the future, it looks fantastic!".

There are plenty of people with money, who do pay taxes, who can start those businesses. We don’t need trickle down economics in order to function as a society.

Does London need the Global Rich hanging around if they’re not willing to pay taxes? Is it necessary to have the tax bring in 30 Billion in order for it to be considered a success? If nothing else, this tax demonstrates to those who DO pay tax, that the Government is willing to treat earners equally and fairly, regardless of how much tax it brings in.

I find it fascinating reading hacker news, full of IT folk who simultaneously build software that enables and profits from the advertising and personal information selling & tracking industry - are also the same people who complain the loudest about it. Unbelievable.

I just wanted to say that this article fits with my personal experience so well, so refreshing. I love messing with code and different technologies, but mostly I really only want to please myself or family members with my creations. To be relieved of the need to feel professional in my endeavour is enlightening.

Not surprised. But not hugely important in the scheme of things. The fact that the project exists and is being worked on seems a win to me given public transit history in the USA.

In Australia this (fans of different teams sitting with each other instead of separate) has been normal for AFL (Australian Football League) matches since forever. It creates an atmosphere of friendly rivalry and discussion amongst people sitting near each other instead of animosity. You commonly get some quite funny and friendly banter going on between rival supporters.

There is a huge number of go package management tools being developed at the moment. It seems like there's a new one each day! I'm hoping the Golang developers can pay attention to what's going on in the community and propose a more official solution? I realise they recently proposed 'vendoring' but the Golang community seems to have mostly ignored that suggestion.

I would love to have done an apprenticeship in Programming. Australia really needs an apprenticeship program like the one Germany has.

But it is NOT as expensive as the system they're going to. Ubuntu is and always will be free. It's also open source. The majority of users are not thinking of freedom when choosing an OS and price is only part of the story. In the end, like it or not, Users choose OS's based on a number of factors, including the eco-system of the operating system, software availability, hardware and device support. etc etc. Ubuntu users are not getting locked in. They can still do whatever they like with their operating system once ubuntu is installed.

Honestly I don't understand the constant whining and whinging about ubuntu/canonical commercialization.

Fucking shock horror they want to be profitable, while releasing quality open source software.

Big Fucking Deal. Microsoft? Apple? Anyone? A profitable open source Linux OS vendor is a real benefit to open source software. It can provide much needed investment in open technologies and drive hardware and software vendors to releasing linux friendly products.

I truly don't understand all the ubuntu hate I keep seeing lately...

Paper and pencil based voting, despite the risks, should be developed in USA, shouldn't take to long.

So thats why they spend their time suing the shit out of every company that competes with them.
