The chances are not close to zero, they are much higher. The trade war with China is one of the very few topics where many Democrats support the administration. If the US caves now China will have won an enormous victory and will be able to dictate any further terms of trade with the US, which is a really bad outcome. There is very little chance that the current administration will accept a loss here on a fight they started or that Trump cares about how much every day people will be hurt by the trade war.

In fact further US economic decline plays to his advantage because he can clearly blame China and blaming foreigners is something that works with his base.

If you have strict privacy features enabled in firefox they block recaptcha and force you to do hard puzzles. It really sucks, but I'm not disabling the privacy features.

If you're an employer in California and want to choose a provider that will not have to deal with this you might want to consider offering Kaiser to your employees. There's benefits and drawbacks, but one of the big benefits is that they're vertically integrated and the doctors, labs, pharmacies are all part of the same organization. I would think that would help avoid this specific type of situation.

The big drawback is that your employees would need to live near Kaiser facilities. In the Bay Area they are everywhere though and easy to get to. Making use of any doctor or service outside of the Kaiser network is probably not covered.

Ideally you'd get a compile error, but there is no compiler in PHP. Run time is the only time PHP can tell you there's a problem.

Where I work we give people real problems to solve during interviews. We have a great team that gets a lot of work done. In hiring we put emphasis on practical expertise with the tech we use and the problems we face and not academic puzzles. There's immense value in having a strong computer science background and I feel we've had success being able to get a sense in our candidates where they stand without the standard whiteboard hell other companies put their candidates through.

The value of an extension is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. The value of someone's ethics also has a price. It is a different price for everyone. It's silly to go into details about ethics, because maybe I donate half of the unethical income to buy mosquito nets and now I've traded saving lives with inconveniencing users or some other such very personal calculation/rationalization.

You can browbeat developers with your ethics and ideals, but your approval doesn't feed anyone's children.

I have found the new design around the tabs to be very nice. The status bar looks neat, but it doesn't seem to carry over to tabs created by tmux sessions so I never see it. I also wish there was a way to put that status bar at the bottom.

Pizza delivery is profitable. Pizza comes in a shape easy for transportation, the size and value of the delivery is economical for a delivery business and there's an established culture around ordering pizza for delivery.

The food delivery companies just need to figure out these problems, which a hard, for non-pizza foods.

Revenue growth slowed due to the cost of one day shipping. It's not about revenue being up, but how much revenue is growing. If revenues go up some large amount, but it's up by less percentage wise than it was up last year that means growth is slowing.

I recognize the value of these studies but I don't think they're worth the pain and distress inflicted on these animals.

I can't put myself in the place of these researchers and see myself injecting things that cause harm to the rats without feeling really shitty about the situation. Are they just numb to what they're doing?

A company buying thousands of homes and then milking workers through rent for decades seems unethical.

Providing homes for rent is a service provided to people that they can pay for if they want to make use of it. An economic transaction involves an exchange for money. It is not milking someone. Is a grocery store milking you for food you buy?

A house has value. The people who built it had to feed themselves and their families. Land has value. It is not free. I have to pay expensive annual property taxes to maintain ownership. The services a bank provides are not free. Living expenses are a real thing and even if you can't afford it then someone else is going to have to pay for your housing.
