I think people are missing the point here. AI's large win is in Enterprise and B2B. Especially in US, enterprises are not going to adopt Chinese models due to the hidden security and the privacy risk. In each wave of model release, Chinese have already proven to beat the performance metrics, but there is no track record of adoption.

Companies do have a huge appetite for open-weight models, but who is going to invest enough to train those models and also prove out a revenue model and ROI with it? Plus, it needs to come from someone with the track record of safety.

Hi Eric, very excited to read your book. Im fan of The Lean Startup and it helped shape my couple of startups that I did (and got successful exit). Recently i've been having crisis and loss motivation on starting a new one after seeing SV getting corrupted in recent years, but im hoping your new book helps me revive the fire and show that starting a startup with the right ethics is possible.

Anyway, my question is - Have you had a chance to research OpenAI and it's path to getting "corrupted" i.e. going from Non-profit to this weird structure to then, what it looks like, absolutely regular for-profit company? whats your take on it? what are the lessons of the convoluted company structure they persuaded?

There are always at least two parties involved in a war, an aggressor and a defendant. 'War is a Racket' is always true or war unjustified in case of the aggressor. Defendant usually doesn't have much choice in it.

Even the example you've taken for WWII, UK and US weren't the aggressor. The war already at their door for British, so they had a little choice in it. Similarly for US they knew, if they don't do something early enough, they could end up being a victim or suffer from it eventually. So they had to support Britain in the war.

Disagree on the economics. Pilots cost significant money and since the airline industry runs on low margins this can be a huge plus.

But the main reason we won't see planes without pilots is political and related to trust. I think for the same reasons we are less likely to see truly driverless cars.

Even for airplanes and trains, we still have pilots and humans behind the controller with 100% attention.

I love Swift and it's potential for use cases beyond just iOS ecosystem, but I think Apple never fostered or encouraged the open source community to involve in its development.

It's another classic example where it's simply not enough to open source something, you have to really allow and encourage the developers to contribute to increase the adoption.

Let's say it's not commission free. What are the actual costs for paying per trade. What's the math for monthly subscription if we follow Netflix model?

But it must be possible to build an app which serves retailers as the customers vs these HFTs? For example, charging monthly subscription or paying micro fees per trade. What are the costs involved for trading directly in exchanges?

Honest question: Is there a way to circumvent these HFT firms and create a direct trading app with retailers interest in mind?
