Had an instance with almost 2TB on disk in 2015, it's probably a lot more by now, if it's still running as-is. Was for analytics/data-warehousing. Though the big table was partitioned so queries were always nice and snappy. The machine had 128gb ram back then, but probably never needed that much. The applications working with the data ran on that same server, so processing latency was usually <10ms even for larger queries.

In my experience of almost a decade in infosec now, no, we're not okay. I don't know any other group where so many people are struggling with burnout or who have developed a drinking habit because of their jobs. Might be selection bias, but this industry eats people alive, more so than others.

that's interesting, ADI doesn't even list it anymore on their website but it's marked as still active. i guess it's still used in some test&measurement equipment.

they didn't though. zstd has been around even before the main dev joined fb, i distinctly remember it being under the persons personal github name.

Exagear is originally from the Russian company Eltechs and was targeted to running x86 apps on SBCs like the Raspberry Pi. e.g. they provided Ubuntu images with wine to run windows apps on a Pi.

They discontinued the product beginning of 2019 and presumably? got bought by Huawei.

It's already running an almost mainline kernel: https://twitter.com/mntmn/status/1259611758827835394 and what is left looks like it would be easy to get upstreamed. I don't know about the u-boot situation, but one can always ask Lukas on twitter ^^

I have a Novena around collecting dust too and used it a lot while it was still getting patches. I'm actually more excited about the reform2, and already held a prototype unit at 36C3. It's very much what got me excited about open hardware laptops in the first place, but packaged in a more user-centric way. the Novena was always a pita to use on the go.

Quite the contrary, KiCad is constantly improving and getting better with each release. When did your Altium last crash? I bet it wasn't more than a week ago.

The real reason why companies are invested so much in it, because they have knowledge in it and huge design libraries.

Now offering a way to convert those properly to KiCad and giving support for edge-cases, that would be a business opportunity.

That's human powered for sure. Routing isn't the hardest problem, everything is quick once all the components are placed where they belong. E.g. TopoR already does quite a good job at the routing part.

But if you only take a schematic, and the design is sufficiently complex, it's already difficult if you hand it to another engineer who's not too familiar with what is being done, let alone a machine learning model.

I have the most experience with TI silicon, so that's where i can talk most about the datasheets.

Some are excellent, many are really good and except for the odd outlier, most are sufficient. Especially certain lines of the newer dc/dc's have really good datasheets where you can just take the reference circuit in the datasheet as is, plug in your values in the formulas to get your inductance, resistors and cap values. Oh, and webench power designer also does a good job if your application is not too complex.

And complexity is also why i mentioned the simpleswitcher series. Other vendors also have similar simple integrated and modern solutions. With good documentation.

And as for Linear, they have amazing chips and documentation with a price that brings tears to your eyes. I have a love/hate relationship with those.

As for calling up vendors, TI at least has their e2e forum where you usually can get an answer no matter how much you pay them, you just need to create an account.

Because I see it again and again: Please don't put 20 years old dc/dc converters into new things. Neither price nor package are valid resons.

There's cheaper and better ones available in similar or the same packages. E.g. LCSC is a perfectly valid source for many chinese brands and cheaper ICs, so availability is also not a reason.

Now for the last: familiarity. If you have to take a ti simpleswitcher because you're scared of DC/DC's, that's also perfectly valid, but again, there are newer ones which are better all around.

Not all workers have a union. And the current trend in Hungary is to take away more and more workers rights. A law is quite toothless if it's not implemented that way.

Example for workers rights: Currently unemployed people get benefits for some time and after that the state will employ them (see közmunka) for less than minimum wage. In practice, what happens is that some companies previously employed workers with minimum wage, let them go and re-employed them for a lower wage via the state. This in turn creates an incentive to keep those workers in this perpetual state, because it's less desirable to employ them directly. (And no, they don't get any more money from the state or anything to match the loss of wage)

Yes, the employers can and will try to pay out the overtime only after that time. And some are already trying to do just that. There have been large protests which the state media doesn't even cover at all and honestly, calling this propaganda is quite dishonest. Also workers are being "convinced" to sign agreements because otherwise they are out of a job.

There's (in my experience) not a very large overlap between overly promiscuous poly people and other poly people.

Not having long-term stable partners is also not mutually exclusive with being polyamorous and many poly people (again, in my experience) benefit from having multiple deep relationships with whom they can share their problems and struggles with. Load-balancing actually benefits all in this case.

A better comparison would be that children growing up in a polyamorous environment are more like a tribe of people instead of the classic family.

My name is Elen and I'm recently looking for new IT-Security related work opportunities. The past years I've been working in various roles in IT-sec. I have experience with reverse engineering, penetration testing, some SIEMs and developing security related software (honeypots, etc). I also have experience in developing hardware and security related aspects of ICS.

I recently built a keyboard with Gateron Clear switches (they have 35cn activation force) for someone who has problems with their wrists too. It made all the difference in her case. There are (AFAIK) a few manufacturers that offer full keyboards with those switches.

Can you specify which country or university your experience is based on? In my experience (Austria) there were issues sometimes, but nothing which would even by a long shot could be called "rampant". Here it is more of an issue that there is a lack of funding and not much political will to increase it. The amount of the GDP which goes to funding universities is lower than average recommended by the world bank [citation needed].

Of course it will be produced for as long as customers want it. But the roadmap makes it also crystal clear where they are going: More DSP cores. We likely won't see anything newer than the Cortex-A15. TI builds what enough customers want, and if you're not locked in enough to their DSPs or general ecosystem, you'll move away. That in return means there won't be anything new. No single customer is big enough to warrant bigger cores alone.

A nice quote I remember "I'd rather buy TI stocks than their products".

The thing just is that TI didn't exactly retain the people that know the internals of the OMAP series. If you hit any bugs you're on your own unfortunately. (Your milage with the existing documentation may vary also).

Yeelight is just a startup marketing under the Xiaomi brand and is promoted by them, it's not technically Xiaomi. Same as with other branches of products (e.g. the vacuum robots).

It also happens that Xiaomi later releases products which actually compete with their partners (in this case yeelight and their bedside lamps). Also the whole Yi Camera brand. First marketed with the help of Xiaomi and now a competitor to the Mijia brand (Xiaomis own brand).
