I think Stripe made a bad choice when firing people. They should have decreased salaries, percentage wise more at the management level and try to keep their workers. I wouldn't want to work such company ever.

Thanks for the reply. Also, I have the tendency to become very conscious when I use a paid service and kind of messes my mind. I think in the long run it will be cheaper to own a machine.

Actually I am more into RL than DL. But DRL use DL.

I don't need a machine at the moment, I am in the learning state at the moment. But eventually I will need something and passively want to learn on building my own machine. So trying to avoid costly mistakes.

It will be NVIDIA cards for sure. It does not have to be the latest, but I would like to be able to upgrade the cards without need to change the rest of the machine, at least not more than 10% of initial cost. I am very ignorant on this that's why asked how to build a machine starting with cheaper graphics cards but then be able to upgrade to latest and the best if I need to. I guess motherboard is the most important component but which one? Also, size of the box. Any article that discuss these in depth? Not videos, I prefer reading.

Money is not an issue unless I don't make the mistake of buying wrong components that does not fit both physically and compatibility.

I would like to build a compact machine yet able to upgrade, for example 2 graphics card eventually.

I wonder what would be your suggestion for someone who wants to build his own first ML machine (and actually first computer as well). I would like to start small and add (graphics) cards and then maybe upgrade them later one by one. Should I go with high-end cards? latest? Thanks for any good pointers as well.

1988 was the year I started using Pascal while still in college. I developed and released a general ledger software for small accounting firms in 1989 using it. Sold 20 copies, bought myself a printer. It was a great experience that I could never duplicate to this day. It became better with Delphi release, so easy to develop UI using those drag and drop widgets.

Not really, The Selimiye Mosque [2] surpassed Hagia Sofia, not only the diameter of the dome also its robustness of its structure. Taj Mahal is a product of inspiration taken from Mimar Sinan and they studied Sinan's work.

There are 5 prayers, before dawn, just after noon, couple of hours after noon, just after sun sets, and couple of hours after sunset. These varies by time of year and times get closer during winter times and far apart during summer time. Each prayer takes about 20-40 minutes most, except the Friday prayer which is probably the most crowded time and is about one and half hours. It replaces noon prayer on Fridays.

The Blue Mosque just across Hagia Sofia Mosque also allow visitors even during the prayers, except probably during the Friday prayer since it is really crowded. I never had the change to attend Friday prayer there so I am not sure, but I did at other times. Tourist are allowed to visit during prayers and even has the opportunity watching the prayer.

I think it will be very similar if not exactly the same manner. No worries about the visitors of any religion or of no religion. You can experience these majestic structures. I recommend Suleymaniye Mosque, which is much larger than then Blue Mosque but not as big as Hagia Sofia. The mosque at Edirne is from the same architect (Sinan [1]) and bigger than Hagia Sofia.

Current Hagia Sofia is actually the 2rd rebuilt of the original structure. Original was like the churches in Europe and more rectangular than this one, and did not have a dome. The last structure had dome initially but collapse couple of times and was rebuilt. The reason that it collapsed each time is due to the rectangular shape of the base and did not have enough support of half and quarter domes around it. Sinan the architect is actually the one succeeded to keep the dome from collapsing.

All my examples were only to enforce the argument and not to divert the attention. That is why I am not dignifying other threads by replying since they are doing exactly what they accuse me of.

It was probably my mistake not to make my point clear enough. I would like to restate my argument is that we only hear German war crimes at this high amplitude and frequency but almost never about the crimes committed by French or Belgian or any other Western nation. Not on the front page of HN nor on NYTimes. French and Belgian atrocities were also a nation-state crime including the one committed in the Americas.

That's how it looks if you oversimplify history and do it with only one sentence. Turks started to migrate into Anatolia about 600 AD. However, the most defining moment and the most known turning point is the Battle of Menzikert in 1071. This puts at least 1000 years of slow demographic change.

We can argue a lot of details about how it happened. But it is better to stick to your main argument that the guilt over past crimes is mainly a Western thing. That could not be further than the truth. That's where I object mainly. Such demographic changes happened much faster and more brutal in the West by the Western people. Both North and South American continents that are tens of times larger areas than Anatolia has seen genocidal change for a much shorter period of time for much bigger population. It is estimated that the populate in North America was comparable to that of Europe when "discoveries" started. I do not see such guilt proportional to what happened.

You may think that those are a bit in the past. How about French and Belgian colonialism. The crimes committed by Belgian in Kongo pales even that of Germans. The most conservative figure is that Belgians killed 10 Million people. The upper estimate is about 40M. Why we do not hear about those crimes as much as about what Germans did ? I am developer, a heavy user running docker containers, IntelliJ, etc. I have been using Macs for a long time and not considering a switch to a Linux or Windows. If I buy a laptop today I will not be buying another one for at least 5 years. So I wanted understand what I lose if I buy another laptop with an Intel chip versus the new Arm based one.

This questionable business practice is neither new nor limited to online companies. Brick and mortar companies like Costco do have their own products competing from other vendors, and I am sure they analyze sales data before jumping on selling their own.

I was asked to join a team of scala developers. Most except one had started learning about 6 months earlier. I was asked to learn it while making small contributions to the project. I quickly found out that there were statements that could be interpreted in multiple ways, can't remember now what it was. Then I got stuck on something and even our seasoned very enthusiastic Scala developer could not solve it. I then and there decided not to pursue learning the language and quickly have myself transferred to another team. It's a difficult language, one should not spend thinking on the language but spend time thinking about the problem itself. Probably what I say is not doing justice to Scala as I was just a newbie but I did not have those problems with Clojure which is another not that mainstream language.
