Python isn't that strict about whitespace? It's just using indents to delineate blocks and newlines implicitly terminate statements (unless you have an unclosed brace).
Anywhere else, you can add as much whitespace as you want.
As a shareholder, what's the difference between 50 years and forever, anyway? Are you locked into the shares to the point where you're not even allowed to sell them? If not, what's the likelihood anyway that you would have kept them for the full 50 year duration?
N=9? For that second chart, remove the best performer as an outlier and it falls apart. This reads more as "Softbank is poor at making good choices" than anything concrete.
One of the posts down the page references "The Great Weibo Unblocking of late-January 2012", and many of the posts show separate block statuses from November and February.

So what are these courses? Video isn't working for me at the moment but judging by the descriptions they seem to be more involved than the CS courses:

We'll have to see what happens to the evaluation systems once the term ends, but at the very least you can sign up for all the classes and download the videos.
More importantly, for evaluation purposes, the quizzes and exercises can be submitted late, though penalized in points. Since what you get out of the course for having a high score (a certificate/letter of completion?) is worth about as much as toilet paper, you can still do the exercises and be evaluated on them even weeks later. We'll have to see if they keep the system running past the end of the semester - probably won't happen with ML, but maybe DB will stick around a bit.
AI, well, that doesn't have any homework.
So, next semester, sign up for all the courses, stick with all of them past the introduction week, pick one or you you'll focus on, and dabble in the rest.

There are some things that bug me, like broken pdf support - the built-in pdf viewer doesn't support rotation, for instance.

"How is that" clearly refers to Bing's response. I'll admit that I interpreted your post "I think this response is convincing" as referring to lysium's response to your post. It may have been clearer if you had written 'the response', or more directly, 'Microsoft/Bing's response'.
I run into that quite a bit. It generally happens when you sit on a page for a long time - somewhere between half an hour and an hour, I'd guess.
How should this to be fixed (if it does)? 5 second timer on the 'Unknown/Expired Link' page that redirects to the front page?
I'm annoyed that I didn't even know about UBB until earlier today, when I stumbled across Reddit Montreal and saw something about the organization of a protest.
Then again I'm getting all my news from here and Slashdot these days - haven't watched any TV in ages.
My ISP already posted up new rates conforming to UBB - if it does get overturned, I hope they'll return to the old rates: $29 a month for unlimited bandwidth (soft capped at 100GB). I'm due for renewal at the end of this month, so there's not much time to figure out if I need to be switching to TekSavvy.

As a (windows) mouse user, having the tab tear off and sit right where I expect it to, directly underneath the cursor where I point it to, is desired behaviour.
I think the article intended 'secular zealotry' to mean something more like 'nonreligious zealotry' - the zealots are secular, not that the zealots are zealous about secularism. This is intended to contrast against the religious zealots referred to in the previous sentence.

As many have argued, it's disingenuous to treat Flash and the H.264 as being equal in this argument. One of these would be implemented into the browser rather than a plugin. One of these would incur a royalty cost. One of these has viable alternatives.

It doesn't seem like this is really an AI vs. Humans issue. Rather, it's saying, regardless if you have some optimal algorithm X for a class of "Full Employment" problems, it is always possible to have an algorithm that performs better for a specific case at the cost of worse performance for other cases.
I know that Quebec, for one, is horrible for contests/competitions. Something to do with having to give the province 10% of the value of the contest prizes.

Wouldn't life favor the flipped version because it has no natural predators? Consider it an invasive species [1], something there are many examples of and usually a serious problem. While life may favour existing right-handed life over developing left-handed life, this does not mean it will favor existing right-handed life over developed left-handed life - the argument is akin to saying that an invasive species cannot dominate because it hasn't evolved into place already.

Upvoting a story keeps it on the front page longer. Downvoting a story makes it disappear before people can see it.

I read http://petewarden.typepad.com/searchbrowser/2010/11/five-sho... today. GetSatisfaction and other major sites are using 'nofollow' (see the wikipedia article) and therefore should not be contributing to increasing the pagerank of the sites.
However, tweets and certain blogs (the ones with nofollow diabled) may be contributing to pagerank.
So, the lesson is, if you complain, complain on a site dedicated for that purpose.
Actually the initial reception of MoR from what I was was that it was a crackfic/humor piece. The first few chapters are, after all, hilarious. And people expected more of the same. There was quite a bit of confusion later on when it became apparent that the story was meant to be serious.
