I didn't buy this, I inherited it from my dad, but now that I have one, if it broke I would immediately go replace it, and that's a nice DeWALT cordless drill combo, with two batteries and a charging station. In the past I have always had cheaper cordless drills, because spending $150+ on a cordless drill seemed kinda silly, but I use this thing all the time, everywhere, for all sorts of stuff.

They should have just called it (Microsoft) Code. If they can use Word, Access, and Excel as product names, surely they could get away with just calling their world-class editor "Code".

I second your recommendation, I'm a sucker for a sleek editor with a great plugin architecture.

Great question, and in the end it comes down to politics and team siloing. A large corporation with a lot of projects and priorities, and no single Security person to raise the issue with. At the time I wasn't in a position to Just Do It and then tell everyone "Hey, this needed to be done, I got it done, now I need a QA resource to test it and then we need to deploy it to prod" without some backlash from multiple source (my boss, the team that owned the product, etc).

Now (and given everything that's happened in the industry in recent years) I would definitely push more, and maybe fix it on my own, but at the time I just shook my head, and sent follow-up emails every few months to try to keep visibility on the issue.

I used to work for a company that had a big security hole that would allow you to log in as any user as long as you knew the user's UUID (I know, right?) I logged a ticket and raised the issue up the flagpole to let folks know that if someone slipped in some code (we ran a lot of third party javascript) to harvest UUIDs, they could fairly trivially log in as an admin and do some serious damage. The issue sat for months (MONTHS!) until finally a user complained about some non-https content being loaded on our login page, which sparked a whole security review, and gave me an opportunity to bring additional attention to my ticket, which finally got fixed.

This kind of crap is out there, and people don't give it the attention it deserves until they get bitten in the ass. Thankfully, my company didn't get bitten, but if we had, it could have been very bad, and the fact that the issue was called to people's attention and they didn't do anything about it would have made it look that much worse.

Django gives you a ton out of the box, with lots of sane defaults, but it still allows you to override those defaults when you're ready for more complicated functionality or business rules. I like the templating language, it lets you drop a lot of dynamic functionality into existing html templates, while staying out of the way for the most part.

I think part of what I like about this idea is that the vectors inside a larger vector would be the same across larger vectors, for example the very bottom left corner vector is "apple" across all larger vectors. Eventually perhaps we would all even start to recognize vector locations. What if each vector name was even categorized, so you knew that fruits were in the bottom left area of a block, and sports names (i.e. baseball, basketball, etc) are in the top right area of a vector.

Silly, maybe, but I like the idea of people having a general idea of what area something is in based solely off word usage.

So if my front door is steers.pasta.kicks and the end of of my driveway is effort.army.blur, there's really no rhyme or reason to it.

It seems like it should act more like web domains, so my city would be "park", my neighborhood would be "lung" and finally down to my street and house being one of the small blocks inside that. Honestly, making it 4 words seems like you could really break it down in a logical way.

Free and open source, and way faster than Minecraft on older hardware.

My kids love Minecraft, but more recently they have been playing an open source, highly extensible, and much faster game called Minetest. The mods are all written in Lua, and it runs so much faster on the older hardware I make my kids use, it even runs well on Raspberry Pis.

I'll take option C) "Both, where appropriate". I'm working on a little side project that uses front end Mustache templating for allowing admins to build out some structured components, I can then reuse those same Mustache templates to render the components serverside for non-admin users consuming the service.

So, some folks would pay more to have you rebind their notebooks using spiral binding or something, even the cheap plastic binding that school teachers use to turn kids writings into little books.

I quit recently. I uninstalled the app from my phone and setup a redirect in /etc/hosts to send me to Google. I was spending too much time reading really interesting stuff, and not actually doing anything.

I have a Raspberry Pi setup as a NAS and media server (see http://www.naspberrypi.com/) and the first thing I did was download the Linux x64 version for my laptop and the ARM version for my NAS and I had them syncing in about 5 minutes. This is awesome. I'm going to ship another NASpberry Pi (along with an external hard drive that's already a clone of my existing backup drive) to my brother who lives on the other side of the country and completely replace my $100/year backup service with this.

To the top with you! This almost exactly mirrors my experience, right down to last year being my first PyCon and giving a lightning talk this year for the first time. It was an amazing experience, and I applaud all those who worked so hard to make it great for everyone, Jesse Noller especially.

As an Android user, I had no idea that iOS didn't support customizable Intents or Widgets?! That's just crazy to me, since I use widgets for a lot of stuff, and there are several cases where I don't set a default because I want to use different apps to handle different intents depending on the situation (i.e. opening PDFs). I guess most iOS users don't know or care about that sort of thing, they "just want it to work", but man, I would be totally out of my element downgrading to an iPhone.

It's my birthday, so I'll be celebrating it with cake and ice cream :-)

I felt exactly the same way upon reading that line. I'm a very tech-savvy guy, I could easily download and install any app I want on my Android device, but I don't. I'm very cheap, I almost never pay for software, I use mostly open source software. I would rather pay for an app I find to be of value then install some old busted version from the internet, with who knows what kind of malware included in it. I'm not paying for the software, per say, I'm paying for the continued support of the developer by way of updates. Most people I know who use Android phones either don't know or care about installing pirated versions of software, of they know enough to know better than to trust something they downloaded from a random website to run on their phones.

Give them a few years to get into college and start buying actual textbooks.

Right clicking on a shape brings up a Delete Shape option.

Just an example from my experience; if you're using lesscss and you're committing the generated css files to source control, someone cloning your repo and trying to fix a UI bug would probably just jump into the css file and make the change. They may not know that those files are generated by the .less files.

I would love to see this as a Kickstarter project. This is the kind of movement that I feel could really benefit from having a community behind it, and I for one would love to be a part of that community. Shoot, I'd even offer to donate my services to help see it become a reality.
