Yep, that's my target audience: gamblers and those that play fantasy sports or are in pickem pools. I've thought about how to add credibility to submissions but decided to leave that out for now.

My first app written in Ember.js.
I've always wanted a place you could go to get short pieces of information about teams in a specific matchup so this is my attempt at creating that.
I would love to hear your feedback. Thanks!
It's crazy that I found this today...I just started something similar except instead of coding every day I set a goal of 4 hours per week and I use Beeminder to track my progress. Many of the benefits you listed are spot on especially "the feeling of making progress is just as important as making actual progress." Now that I have children, coding for 8 hours on a Saturday just doesn't work. To reach my current goal of 4 hours per week, I plan on coding for 30 minutes in the morning or night where I can but I also have arranged with my wife one weeknight where I leave the house and go code at a coffee shop for 2-3 hours.
Any chance you could integrate with the Sleep Cycle app?
I use an iphone app called Mind Jogger. It's a good solution in that is does constantly remind me of things I tend to forget about, things that are important in my life, but as others have stated, eventually you begin to ignore them.

I tried signing up but I got this error: "a general error has occurred"
Thanks for replying. I'd still love to know more about the process of getting permission to show conference and team logos.
Very nice! Beautiful and very fast for the amount of data that is calculated on the fly. What technologies did you use? Also, did you have to pay license fees to display team and conference logos?
It took me 4 months working on and off, mornings and weekends to finally get my first app in the iTunes store. I was hesitant to learn objective C so I started out trying to build it with html/javascript/phonegap using tiggzi.com. After getting rejected twice for the app not being up to Apple's standards, I bit the bullet and dove into objective c. I watched a few Stanford classes in iTunes but mostly I did a lot of searching on StackOverflow.
I don't know how many times I had to set a reminder to track time with a client. Now I can do it immediately on the go. I've been waiting for this app!
I figured out this was happening when I saw a few videos in my feed from friends that wouldn't normally be posting them. My first thought was that they were spam or that someone hacked their Facebook account. I did some asking around and these friend's had no idea this was happening. (It's kind of embarrassing when everyone see's that you watched a video of a chick in a bikini) I think it is a really shady practice by both companies but I guess they don't have much choice in the battle for #1. Either way, be very careful the videos you click on in your news feed.
I think this is your best work yet Kyro. The re-design feels so much more professional and it looks gorgeous. I guess it's true what they say about design being subjective.
There's something about beautiful design that gets me excited and sparks a desire for me to create something beautiful myself. A great design like this also pushes me to try out an app when I probably normally wouldn't. Great job!
This article is very timely for me as I have been thinking about this a lot the last few days. I graduated with a degree in computer science, but like the OP, I didn't study as hard as I could have (I would have a different mindset if I was in college now). It's only been about 8 years since college but I don't remember much at all about algorithms and Big O.
I have been programming in Rails for the last 5 years (on the side) and I'm surely not thinking about algorithms while I am programming. I usually am just hacking it together to get it to work, with help from Google, Stack Overflow, Ruby documentation, etc.
In college I feel like I had the mindset of just getting through the classes and graduating instead of actually learning and applying this information. I think it was just hard for me to see a connection between things I was learning (such as algorithms) and real world applications.
I'm definitely going to spend some time revisiting and relearning algorithms.
Many may not be truly happy with what they are doing but they are not willing to risk the well being of their family in order to seek what truly makes them happy.
I was inspired and agree with most of this article but when I got to these last few lines I thought, "Sure, I am getting money back for my investment, but that money is supporting my family - putting food on the table, gas in the car and a roof over our heads". That's not a bad investment. It's very hard to drop everything and seek what it is that makes you happy when you have a family depending on you.

Thanks for sharing but this doesn't really answer the question. This is more of a comprehensive list rather than a list you can't live without.
Articles has less screen real-estate (because of 3 columns) and it seems like more work to just scroll through and read the headlines. I'm sure it will grow on me but not a huge fan at the moment.
But if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. I guess you could still carry an "emergency" credit card; maybe one with a high interest rate to deter you from using it unless its really an emergency.
Safe-to-spend balance is great but will it be enforced? I currently calculate my safe to spend balance but nothing stops me from over spending. I don't have the willpower. It would be great if the bank simple card will only let me spend my safe-to-spend balance. So if my safe-to-spend balance is $20 and I go to an ATM and try to withdraw $50, it will decline.

As a 31 year old with a full-time job to pay the bills and a family to raise, I feel like there is not enough time to act on my ideas so they just continue to collect dust. Stories like this give me motivation but I still haven't found the answer to the question: "how can I focus on my ideas full-time and still pay the bills and support my growing family?". In other words, I don't have the savings for two and half years of hustling on no salary and I don't see that changing anytime soon. I will continue searching for the answer. Thanks for the story!
I see Groupon's rise and fall as similar to MySpace. traffic for rival deal site Living Social rose 27% Maybe Living Social is the Facebook in this comparison.
Blogging is a bit like public speaking, and people are scared of it for good reason. You are really putting yourself out there.
Totally agree. After my first blog post I woke up the next morning with the same feeling I get after a night of too much drinking, asking myself "what did I do?".
I am currently working on shaping my identity on the web and I feel exactly the same way. I think I'm going to use Facebook for personal use (family & friends) and twitter/blog for technical. If I happen to make a friend on the technical side, I can request them as a friend on Facebook and open them up to the rest of my life.
Actually, I started down this path by creating a site that lets you schedule anything: www.DecideOnADate.com. You may want to try it out. With Scrambl we wanted to be different from other invitation sites and focus on a niche, which is golfers. The 2 apps may seem very similar at the moment but we have some cool features planned for Scrambl that are directly related to golf.
This change has been made. Thanks!
Scrambl sends out invites for golf and lets the group vote on the course and date.
How does that sound?
