If this is true, I'll need to stop using Backblaze. I have been relying on them for years. If I had discovered this mid-restore, I think I would have lost my mind.

Very strange how HN elevates news about random drug candidates at very early stages of development.

There is a very active landscape of people developing/validating 'biomarkers' for neurological and psychiatric disorders and developing drugs specifically for those populations with the biomarker present; this news is far from extraordinary.

The real news is when these reach FDA approval.

Big fan of Bitwarden, albeit you are putting a single point of failure on all of your secure info.

For two-factor authentication, I wouldn't use the same service for both layers. Seems daft to use Bitwarden as both the password keeper and the TOTP provider. Not sure if that's a cryptographically coherent view, but hey.

Every day I have to use something like 4gb of data to let Backblaze sync. This is despite the fact that I might only have created/changed 100mb worth of files since the previous day's sync.

I don't have pics anywhere. That's all in Photos app/ iCloud. It's very cheap, something like $1 per month.

I use Backblaze to backup everything to cloud.

Generally agree with ppl who say that searching is more important than organising. I use Alfred to search, but I think the default Finder app is quite good these days.

Most important thing is having a consistent filenaming convention. This helps you find files via search. I use 'YYMMDD_HHMM name' if I authored the file or 'YYMMDD_HHMM [sender] name' if someone emailed it to me.

Tangentially, what I'm really happy with is how I manage my web bookmarks. I don't use browser bookmarks or folders. I save bookmarks to Pinboard.in, a cloud service. Then there's a nice Alfred extension which allows me to find them (http://www.packal.org/workflow/alfred-pinboard).

Preface: offline, I've heard good things about working at Stripe. So the following is intended as constructive.

The 'values' read more like a description of what the owners of any high-performance company would want out of their employees, transactionally-speaking. It reads much less like Stripe has a strong cultural identity. Reading this, it sort of feels like you are asking for a lot of my commitment to the Stripe mission without giving me any reason to buy into it.

I'm not sure there is anything idiosyncratic about this list. It doesn't really convey to me what it's really like to "be a Stripe" as opposed to "being a Googler".

Oh, and this phrase, "being a Stripe", it is the very worst kind of SV affectation. Maybe it works for people who are already at Stripe and proud to be there, but from the outside in, honestly it sends me cringing into the next universe. I don't think you have to be an enormous cynic to have that reaction to it.

Overall this seems to fail the test it sets itself: it doesn't convince me that the top team at Stripe are striving to building the best imaginable place to work, which surely is the best part about building your own company.

Something that is really key for me: When I create cards, sometimes I want the audio to play on the front, sometimes on the back (and perhaps sometimes both). But there is just one audio value and I need to decide whether I want it to play on the front or the back across the entire deck.

For example, card 1: FRONT: Text says "écureuil", audio reads out "écureuil" BACK: Text says "écureuil", audio reads out "écureuil", and there's a picture of a squirrel

That's good for vocab comprehension, but what if I want the converse exercise?

At the moment there's no way for me to create both cards at once. I would need two separate decks because it's one template to a deck. And I would need to make the card twice.

I realise this is jumping ahead to 'power user' territory but it's definitely a feature I would use.
