It's not all sunshine and rainbows though. I've been lucky to have Google Fiber for a number of years and I still get buffering issues with YouTube and YouTube TV.

my Roku Ultra is very fast. It's the TCL Roku TV that is very slow.
1) I'm not the sole user of these TVs. 2) If I wanted a "dumb monitor" I would have bought one. 3) When I sit down to watch something, I put my phone away and in a different room so I am not distracted by it, that goes against using the "remote apps".
I also own a TCL Roku TV and the interface is easily twice as slow as my Roku Ultra. Right on the home screen is a giant ad(unless you have network adblocking). Over the years Roku and Google have been fighting about Youtube/Youtube TV on Roku, just like Disney/ESPN fought the cable companies.
I also own a Toshiba built FireTV that suffers from those same problems but far worse. Way more ads, much slower interface, and the hilarious part is a hidden power off button in the menus(it's fun trying to turn the TV off without the proper remote).

I believe there is a technical challenge they are not willing to overcome. My Google Apps account has long had broken integrations with almost all of the "new" google services. There is also a limitation in that you can't join a family group using a Google apps account, so I'm forced to have a regular gmail account anyways in order to participate in that.

The downside of that system is that the 10% at one school is definitely not equivalent to the top 10% in another school. When you compare rural school districts to the suburbs of the major cities a kid in the top 10 people at one school might not even rank in the top quarter at another school.

I can relate to this. My parents lived in a 22 story building that had water leaks throughout the entire building from construction defects. Until my mom literally got herself elected to be the president of the condo board nobody seemed to care that the building was broken. Many years later and a lawsuit against the developer, the building association and the owners were finally able to get compensated AND have the construction defects fixed.
There is no way you can financially prepare for the magnitudes of repairs needed in their case.
They are oftentimes way more expense, I'm guessing because you aren't subsidizing the cost with your data.
Signing doesn't keep Gatekeeper away, you need to also get your app notarized, which involves uploading the app to Apple's servers.
It's not just big tech. I've seen multiple startups struggle and fail because ultimately they are building things to build things, not to solve the problem they set out to solve.

Just because your domain is public doesn't mean your DNS is public as well. You can use a cert signed by a public CA in a private network just fine so long as you're using the right DNS setup.

I have an app that is not distributed via the app store, but is still notarized by Apple and has no Gatekeeper warning when you install it.
You still have to pay the Apple Tax to get your software signed and notarized though.
Not to mention that processing and roasting also changes the bean and the resulting coffee brewed from it.
That is such a horrible user experience though, it's no different than having to hack apart your X11 config file to get the proper modeline support for your monitor, or to map your keyboard so your Super key works.
Thankfully we've moved past those problems for now, until you want to use multiple screens or use a touchpad.

I believe you can do this with policy based routing rules. Effectively you create a second routing table where the default route goes through your wireguard device and then you create firewall modify rules that assign traffic to that routing table by source, your local LAN range and interface in this case.
The following article has an example of using policy based routing. Your setup isn't all that different, you don't need to have more than one default route in each routing table is all and you also might only need one additional route table.

It's not the software that holds back phone cameras. It's the literal size and shape of the sensors and lens.
You can already shoot RAW on a phone, but putting Photoshop on the phone won't solve the lack of depth of field inherent to the lens and sensor setup.
