And even people with important jobs, they would work maybe 50-60 hours a week, but consume resources 24/7.

On average, the value all humans produce in a week might not be enough to keep them all alive for a week.

That's a big one. Probably hundreds of contributors. But what percentage of FFmpeg code they would actually run?

There are dozens of 360 cameras on the market, so I think shutters synchronization is not that difficult to implement.

So many algorithms insist on using "single RGB camera" approach, when it would be much more practical to use 2 cameras.

And they would know that "maintaining that lie for N years" would prove useless as soon as the powerful cameras in lunar orbit would photograph the landing sites. Who would participate in such a lie knowing 100% it will be exposed, eventually...

I'm talking about WebP vs GIF. Not about video.

I've found that animated WebP can produce files around 10% the size of GIFs.

For nicely optimized GIFs like these https://iwdrm.tumblr.com/ then WebP really struggles. Try to convert some of them to WebP and you'll see the result is often bigger than the original GIF.

There is no multiple-pass. libpng only tries to guess the right combination of filters, without doing actual compression. It's not always a good guess, but at least it's fast.

Are the some PI-like constants, but much harder to calculate? Like even a million digits would be hard to calculate?

I just checked the Google homepage, and even the New Year's Eve Google Doodle currently being shown is a good ol' GIF, rather than a modern format such as WebP. And this is with me using a desktop Chrome browser that definitively supports WebP.

APNG's palette mode is much worse than GIF

In terms of image quality, it's only slightly worse. But having the same palette for all frames helps to make inter-frame optimization much more efficient.

Download a dozen random GIF cinemagraphs, and try gif2webp and gif2apng on them.

If you convert static GIF to static PNG, 99% of the time you'll get a smaller file. That was the original goal of PNG project, and it succeeded: static GIFs disappeared completely. Converting animated GIF to animated PNG leads to similar filesize savings.

When designing PNG as a replacement for GIF, they very deliberately and decidedly dropped the animation feature.

The goal was to replace GIFs. And look what happened: "GIF" became synonymous with "animation".
