A lot of the replies to this are, predicably, disappointing. For what its worth, I entirely agree.

AI is good at a lot of things, but it genuinely sucks at anything that requires real creativity. The human at the heart of a creative endeavor can't be replaced, and I hope that never changes.

I don't know why XCode gets the hate it does. It's a solid IDE which I've used for years with only minimal issues. It's certainly no more or less buggy than anything JetBrains releases.

A year-long restructure, where over 1000 people could lose their jobs is beyond disgusting. There's zero justification for it. Ever.

Using the Ryanair website makes me feel icky. The whole thing feels like you have to be constantly on guard not to get tricked - and I'm relatively wise to these things.

Juniors cost more to train, take more effort, and time from seniors who are otherwise "productive" and so companies don't want to hire them and be responsible for that additional work.

It's not remote working, or AI that's to blame for weak junior hiring. It's short-termism from companies that see no reason to spend their time training up juniors.

"i'll own it" doesn't mean ANYTHING. You've kept your job, your money, your security. You haven't owned anything because your decision doesn't make you accountable to anyone.

Additionally, not a single person is being "asked to leave". Every single one of those people is being _told_ to leave, and given no choice about it.

Fully agree. Seeing humans so eager to devalue human-to-human contact by conversing with an LLM as if it were human makes me sad, and a little angry.

In reality, us thinkers will have to find other things to think about. Maybe not right now, but in the not-too-distant future we'll have to find other things that make us think and scratch that bit of our brains that need itching from learning new stuff and thinking hard about it.

I guess it depends on which spaces they're banned from. Before Facebook, online communities were bulletin boards and chat rooms. They weren't hyper-addictive social media platforms designed to suck as much attention as possible; they were genuine places of connection.

My hope is that children being banned from the mega platforms would lead to a growth in less harmful online communities for folks who can benefit from it. But I don't know.

Get in the habit of tapping "Don't Allow" when apps ask for notification privileges. You don't need them. Open the app when you want to.

Being a nuisance is not illegal. In the eyes of the law, someone being a nuisance is, indeed, innocent - and to say so is not dishonest.

100%. Amazon hired 14,000 people, and now it's firing 14,000 people it no longer wants on its payroll. Plain and simple.

The bar for medical devices in most countries is _incredibly_ high, for good reason. ChatGPT wasn't developed with the idea of being a therapist in mind, it was a side-effect of the technology that was developed.

This is too creepy for my taste. The benefit of having an LLM be aware of my browsing history doesn't give me even close to enough extra value to allow it.

Reasonable people know you only start pointing to the contract when things escalate to a certain point as it locks everybody into a defensive posture and now everybody is going to be rigid moving forward.

First, and arguably most important, thing in learned in tech & business. Once the contracts come out, it's game over.

It might be legal, but it's not polite.

Too many folks forget this.

Do what you want, but I'll tell you if I don't like it. Others might too.

They're not infringing on your rights, but it might make you a little uncomfortable.
