Canada's is same way. I am from India, and been in US for about half a decade. US's process is completely old school.

Canada had plans to integrate all citizen services through one account dashboard, curious to see how countries roll-out services like those in next decade or so.

I am a BA(Business Analyst) with mostly traditional Project Management duties. My bachelors was in CS, and I still love to delve into technical details of a solution. I do some data analytics for my product. But have been interested in more analytics driven roles and eventually find a Product Owner/Manager role.

Does anyone have insight if doing Georgia Tech's - Master of Science in Analytics will help me land such role?

I think the sleep and productivity times vary with age, food, and stress levels. I used to be a late nighter almost all of my teen life into the early 20s. But have now become early(rather super early) riser.

As expected light plays a huge role in altering sleep cycles. All my devices go into blue light mode around 5:30 pm, and same with Hue lights at home. And the lights turn on to 6500K ~30 mins before my alarm goes off. If for some reason my lights do no turn on I still find in hard to wake-up at 2 just with an alarm.

As for food, I've noticed on days my diet is heavy in red meat, and fats I tend to sleep longer.

A couple of reasons for it.

I was wasting my time in evenings on useless stuff and was mentally drained to do any productive work.

I need to change the type of industry I work in, so I feel the solid block of time in the morning with a fresh mind is the best time to learn new skills.

Also, I am single and got divorced last year. I found myself wasting time, contemplating mundane things, reading psychology forums in evenings. It was not helping me get out of the hole I was in. So I changed my schedule.

A product hunt type website but for adding features to current app/websites. User can thumbs up or down a feature request, and can also thumb-up a request with some small money tagged to it. The money collected will go to a non profit.

Good point. Amazon is kind of like it. But searching for a product on amazon is like searching of some info on wikipedia.

However, Google search spans a across all of web.

So, we do not have something that spans across all sites to hunt for the best airline ticket. Taking into account all of the preferences.

Like FB for Work,LinkedIn in for work is an 'easier' sell and a solid secondary revenue stream. They must be looking into that. If not, they should be.

Exactly, if we can root people to become vegan, oragnic and not by fur etc. Why not have campaigns to not support products made by countries with oppressive governments.

But when China is at par with what US has been, China's record of human rights and free speech worldwide will be much worse than that of US.

True, May be Google is still stuck in old ways of Internet. When early adopters drove the adaption. But Internet, specially Web has become too mainstream and there is a lot of noise. So being dependent on just early adopters might not cut it. It needs to have a Growth-Hacker type mindset.

Google is in dire need for a marketing unit, that educates regular consumers about the possibilities of the applications and products Google has. Otherwise Google always ends up with low traction for a lot of its products. And sometimes these products are killed.

It seems Google wants to do consumer tech only to get money to be able to do high tech. But otherwise it has no real interest in consumer tech.

Yep all off-shore people want is an opportunity at on-site. Not to learn new tech or experience a different culture or have better management skills. But to earn some $$$. There are some good companies that do really quality work at off-shore(mostly India) - like ThoughtWorks, Nagaro etc.

Since I am one of those off-shore guys who's now at on-site. But not one day has been like when I feel I am in software business, its human resources business.

Also, I find American managers much better than Indians(I am Indian myself .. just speaking out honestly). Americans rewards talent better, are not racist and don't encourage nepotism.

I am an h1b working in US from past 3 years.Worked in India for 3 as well. I've always felt that all big companies should be doing their own IT. The only agenda outsourcing companies have is to increase the headcount.

Technically, 95% people working in them are so challenged. I've seen Java programmers who don;t know that Android is a Google owned OS and the apps are written in Java, even when they use Android phones themselves. Culturally, 80% folks do not make an attempt to learn american way of life. They are high on nepotism.

The only basic diff is that they know basics of SDLC and some knowledge of coding. They are otherwise not technically inclined.

I feel more companies should be having homegrown IT. IT is not going to be a commodity any time soon, better tech will give an edge for some time to come. It will also improve the overall culture of companies in automobile, bank or other markets.

With these 'protectionist' measures and EU ruling on breaking up Google. Does it signify EU trying to muscle control and power when most of new world power is with US and Asia/China/India.

ok, yep let me clear that. What I mean is

-Companies should be able to own and trade their users data with other companies. This should be like a stock or ad exchange. More pull requests for certain data, higher the data connection price.

-Also blogs should be able to charge $0 or some amount for search bots to crawl them. Its demand and supply if. NYT might be able to ask for some price while Buzzfeed can say .. eh we'll set that to free.

-Now for user, Example If I pay $200 for a robot - The company can say, hey it is $10 to use it monthly(because the robot company figures that is avg cost to fetch data, lets say from Goog FB AMZN etc). But some companies can say, the data of their users is owned by them and their user so if the user want to use his/her data then its free. But if the company wants to use to for some other means without user consent then its up for sale.

Its kind of like twitter's firehose, just more universal. Will encourage companies to develop APIs since now they can charge its use. I'd love a google now/robot to suggest me what netflix flick I should see based on my Bing search history.

Scale has its advantage, products like Google Now or a Home Robot/Assistant is not possible unless there are a ton of data points available to be processed. I thinking breaking up is not a solution, but rather content(headlines included) and data about customer should be traded between companies using APIs. Like a data exchange, just like exchanges for electricity and other utilities. Imagine a time in future when you want a fancy Apple robot, but that robot is dumb unless it has access to all of your current and past data.

Thanks for response, I am also inclined o this only. Because I think it a void which needs to be closed, no matter it was caused due to lack of product or a product getting bought and closed.

We know that the market for the product is their as the startup has been acquired less than 6 months back, there are no popular replacements. And this has created a noticeable void.

"My advice would be to reach out to the team who had the startup which was acquired and get their feedback. They will be able to tell you if what you are doing is worth pursuing, if there is still a need in the market, if there are any legal/IP issues etc. I wouldn't waste anymore time on the project until you have spoken to them. They should be more than happy to help especially considering they already have exited their investment and are locked up at Google"

No it not Etherpad. If you want some pointers, it is in B2B space, where end users is still internet at large.(Think outbrain/disqus)

1. Google said that the tech would be used in future versions of chrome.

But I think that is not the case, since this product was a substitute for 'search' so they bought & shut it down.

2. Yes our execution is different and we do have a set of features which can be potential winners, but were not part of the product Google bought.

Is this an acquition. From the crunchbase description, it appears that this can be used to suggest friends on Google+. Thoughts ?

I think Reader need a complete re-design, tweaks on line of Gmail won't help. I have some 1400+ items in my subscription list. And it is not comfortable to read all that stuff in google reader's current avatar. So for now feedly has rescued me. Google reader should offer a feedly type opt-in view. Or it can have a two layouts one for power users and another for people with two digit subscriptions.
