Thanks, this is quite bang on. Any good stuff is getting banned/archived/trolled and I am really missing on talking to people about the technicalities of some of the trading systems that I am building. When I mentioned an 'advanced community', I meant discussing with devs their experience in working with tick data, data storage, in memory processing. Qs like can they ingest tick data for a few thousand symbols and what kind of latencies exist in converting to candle sticks, what is the the stack that they trade using. Technicalities in risk management, handling of errors, directional, non directional strategies and in-depth conversations on almost all of the above topics and more

4chan uses google analytics? doesn't the free version stop at 10M pages? Does 4chan pay 150K/year for google analytics?

In the context of this article, it is only true for people who care as much, have spent years caring about their work and continue to do so. Surviving sufficiently long enough in the world where you get to a point where you are truly awesome at your craft and still get to make these choices and worry about them and think about them and have those choices bother you is the realm of very few fantastic people.

>TL;DR - Zynga's profits are a sign that they have doubled down on acquisitions to counter-balance a market shift from web to mobile.

That is not the right summary. Aquisitions are not expenses. They are spent from the 'capital/capital reserves'. So the act of acquiring doesn't hurt the company's profitability directly. However if all the acquired companies are making losses, those losses will now become zynga's losses. So right now the cost of running zynga is huge and that is not too good a thing as compared to its revenues

Does anyone know of a way to keep synching all the TED videos as and when they are uploaded? My goal is to maintain a local copy on my machine so that I can view them whenever I like. Any downloaders that can do the job?

Care about your business. Care about your people. Care about your people. Care about your company. I mean really care. Obsess. That is what gives you the best possible chance at building something great.

In a sales organization you can tie people upto a similar performance incentive structure, because everyone (the majority) sell. The key being, the people you are incentivizing should have the ability to move the story forward. I find it odd about the entire co's bonus being attached to social, when the entire co is not allowed/designed to 'do social'.

What is the point of incentivizing gmail/maps/apps/search to do social? (some social widgets make not a coherent social strategy).

Its a textbook wrong move. May be implementation details differ - but that info is available in the article

A customer of sendgrid as well and we send over a million emails a month using their services. Now we will try to send alerts/non transactional emails through amazon ses to test them out. The price difference is too big to ignore.

I like this. They are priced at 25% of sendgrid, which we use as we send a million emails a month or so. But sendgrid provides a dedicated IP address. Having a dedicated IP over a period of time helps with delivery as the IP 'reputation' increases based on your delivery rates.

A lot of EC2 Ips are blacklisted by ISPs because people just create instances and spam away using exim/sendmail. If amazon and keep its IPs clean and also manage the service well, this is going to be THE email sending service to use.

If you aren't able to sustain the site at some point in the future, there would be major downtime and broken scripts across sites. That is the reason why people would trust google or other more trustworthy sites for hosting their main js files, or prefer to do it themselves

Very interesting. Wonder if these techniques could be used in some form during presentations. Would be nice to have people have a sublime experience, even if it was for the briefest bit.

One area CDNs seem to miss out on is India. Most of the ones I've seen including Level3 have their pops in SG/HK. Only Bitgravity and Akamai have India pops

Thanks for the lead on theplanet. The edgecast pricing is not bad :)

If you contact a Tier 1 CDN directly without a decent commit, you will not even be entertained, but you can always find resellers. Akamai pay as you go pricing was just around 150$/TB pricing with resellers and we have used them for a long time. We gave up on CF after speed issues in Asia. Akamai is the strongest across the globe
