Yup, it is SFTP for both sending files (initiating payments) and receiving files (getting balances, confirmations, etc). This is how most programmatic money movement was happening under the hood at SVB (and many other banks for that matter).

We just started using Mozart at Modern Treasury (S18), and have been really happy so far. We didn't want to spend a ton of time setting up data tooling, so we liked that we could use Mozart to get up and running really fast. All we've had to do is write our transforms, and things like snapshotting, scheduling, etc are taken care of for us. Pete, Dan, and team have been really responsive to our questions and good partners. At first I was a bit skeptical and we were just going to do Snowflake+Fivetran ourselves. But after talking to some of their larger customers, I was convinced that (a) it would save us time and (b) it could scale with us.
I'm most excited for Enumerable#tally for counting occurrences of elements.
From the example in the release:
["a", "b", "c", "b"].tally
#=> {"a"=>1, "b"=>2, "c"=>1}
There's more about this change here (https://medium.com/@baweaver/ruby-2-7-enumerable-tally-a706a...). I probably do this a few times a week: list.each_with_object(Hash.new(0)) { |v, h| h[v.something] += 1 }I find it interesting the recent rapid rise of ISAs. I remember back in 2013/14, hearing Upstart pitch to my college for their ISA program. From what I recall, their pitch fell mostly on deaf ears. You can still see their ISA agreement online funnily enough: https://www.upstart.com/funding_terms But they discontinued it in 2014: https://slate.com/business/2014/05/upstart-pulls-income-shar...
It's not clear to me why the market pull for ISAs has grown so much recently, although I am happy to see it as an alternative to debt. Perhaps it's the increasing student loan debt burden in the US? Perhaps capital markets opening up to ISAs as an investment vehicle as well?
We've been using zeroheight at Modern Treasury and are big fans thus far. It's clearly built for design versus other platforms we considered, and was way easier than building something ourselves.
Hey there - author of the article here.
Like some of the other comments said, ACH payments are handled by a middle man(The Clearing House/FedACH). In terms of speed, this is what their current guidance is:
"Specifically, the Nacha Operating Rules require that ACH credits settle in one to two business days and ACH debits settle on the next business day. Recent enhancements to the Nacha Operating Rules now enable same-day settlement of virtually all ACH transactions."
(https://www.nacha.org/news/what-ach-quick-facts-about-automa...)
For what you're asking about with check reversals, there are protections that let you challenge payments after they have "cleared". ACH payments from individuals can be challenged for up to 60 days and for businesses, up to 3 days (although sometimes banks will let you do it beyond that window).
ACH is built to be reversible. If you want avoid that, you can use wires or (soon) RTP.
I believe that Palantir thinks they can scale their business in a way traditional consulting firms cannot. Since they have pretty powerful data and software tools, they can actually reduce the cost per client as their client base grows. Going public could give them more access to capital to keep growing, which they should do if their economic model scales.
Hey everyone, I wrote this post for the LendingHome blog. I hope you all find it helpful!
It can be difficult to distill comprehensive tips for body health into a short post, so feel free to post any questions you might have. I'd be happy to make recommendations or clarify any points from the post. :)
