X for math and Y for reading? Age 9 I obsessed over Civilization, Sim City, Myst and the Journeyman Project. I distinctly remember playing these games and wanting to "be smart", sitting at the computer with a dictionary in hand and a jotter for working out puzzles. I have no doubt that the mastering of these games played a significant role in my academic achievement.
Thanks Jason, that's an interesting idea. We've talked about payment models that charge incrementally for actual usage, like Tarsnap does - which would be a good fit for alot of different use cases. I think the issue though is that a flat rate per month is much more easy for people to understand.

There is an interesting balance between keeping the interface very simple and giving pro users the flexibility they require. Possibly in the future we could find a way to make it skinnable (ie upload custom css) without losing simplicity, but we'd be very wary of overcomplicating things.

Thanks, this is a great point and is borne out by the stats. Last night we saw 83% hitting the "Now Click Here" button but far far less taking it beyond that. We're talking about a consistent "what to do next" element now.

Spot on! We made this after reading 37s' Rework and very much admire the "how can we do less" mindset.
If you click Config there's a small payments panel. So far you can enter a paypal address to receive your payements and it will integrate with the cart, or you can simply accept your orders via email. We'll integrate with further providers later on, too.

Cheers for the feedback, these are all things we need to think about and your suggestions for the cart are spot on. In terms of shipping, we stripped it down in the seller config to just postage is included in prices, with a dropdown to specify where you shipping to. We'll sort out options for postage prices by item/ by order later on.

We're working on adding (minimal) inventory control. You'll be able to put +Quantity on a line, ie +5 if you have five to sell. The site will then track stock level, and you can edit the quantity in the list at any time.

It's good ol' chestnuts like this that made me think of the "rerun" button: http://bit.ly/ek6kqi Instead of upvoting you would click the rerun link to signal the content as duplicate (but worthy). This would move it out of the news and to a dedicated classics page of timelessly good content.
I've smiled at many a piece of HN serendipity in the past, but never expected it to happen to me. I wrote this car park post, and also DJ'd at the arty last friday night. Perfection.
Suggestion: the Rerun button allows veteran users to signal that an article has reached the front page before. Far from flagging the links for removal, the rerun button signifies that the content has a timeless quality.. it definitely isn’t news, but it is still worthwhile. A link that is getting both sufficient upvotes and rerun clicks is moved to the Reruns page, which would feature all manner of old chestnuts and stop them clogging up the front page.
So it offers unlimited free food, but only in the US. You can't choose specifically what you want to eat, but it does a great job of guessing foodstuffs that you might like. And you can't eat the same thing twice due to licensing restrictions.

If they really would drop startups that made it big they could make it a feature. Instead of a deadpool, they can add startups to a bigpool, and tease the major sites with it: "we followed them then, you follow them now"
Yes I wondered if you could make a rerun bot to complement this feature: it would match text in submissions and tineye images to come up with a % likelihood of duplicate content.

I hadn't realised until I read your comment that the "logged in" features of the site aren't talked up on the front page. When logged in you can see your personal top films based on your votes, and your reccomendations based on films you haven't seen. These are currently only recommended based on their rank, but in future we'd like them to be weighted based on your voting history and a method of matching you to users who voted in a similar way.
While certainly candid, I think that these examples fall down flat as they don't stimulate discussion. I think if you want to be memorable, just write a short section called "Ask Me About" at the end of your (1 sided!) resume. For example, 1. I submitted a patent application for a consumer electronics product that was rejected. or 2. I am very curious about new webapps and keenly participate in beta programmes. Either of these are very easy for an interviewer to ask about and I find much more useful than "President of University Chess Society" type info.

1. create white label styleable brandable badgeable reddit 2. give it to the web team of every conde nast publication to integrate with their site & strategy 3. vogue, gq, vanity fair and the like now have better websites with their own reddit-like implementations on their own domains. reddit itself is unscarred and gets traffic feeding back from these sites by cross populating stories.
Not sure why they didn't do more of this as it was surely along the lines of what they were initially talking about. On the plus side, they haven't made a mess of reddit itself.
