Can you clarify if this is a 1:1 backfill for Josepha's role or if her scope will be different?

For many years, the official guidance on the trademark has explicitly been that WP was not the trademark and people should use that instead of WordPress. Tons and tons of people use WP in their businesses, domains, product names, etc.

I mean, don't use UUID for user-facing things sure, but that doesn't mean it's not useful in of itself.

That's a terrible way to use it is all.

My career in tech has never suffered for not having a college degree.

I have lost jobs to people who had advanced degrees, but as far as I know I've never lost out on a job due to lack of a bachelor's.

When I'm hiring I care less about your degree than just about anything else. Having a degree definitely won't hurt you, but it's not nearly as much of a qualification in my industry as practical experience is.

That said, I've definitely taken college classes when they offered something I wanted to learn, and I would like to do more of that - not for the degree, but because learning stuff is cool.

I have done something very similar. Walked out of an interview (politely) due to how it was being conducted.

Employers forget that interviews are two-way, and that a talented potential employee is scoping you out to make a decision as well.

They are too often used to having all of the power in the negotiation, they completely don't get it when the time comes to interview someone who isn't desperate.

The ego blow is hard for them to take when you turn them down.

It's not just tablets, I get that junk on my other android and iOS devices (nook, phone, etc) all the time now.

For some reason the news sites seem to be the worst offenders.

It feels very much like the paywall thing that devastated so many newspaper sites a few years back. Despite having highly desirable content, they just don't get the internet (still).

This seems to be a fairly standard gripe from the W3C. "Listen to us, because if you don't the sky will fall!"

They are making themselves increasingly irrelevant because they exist primarily to restrict and limit rather than to expand and innovate.

Partly that's the nature of the beast, standards are after all rules.

The problem is that the rules need a clear and timely mechanism to evolve. Clearly the W3C is the wrong answer to that problem.

I remember well what things were like in the days of horrible tag soup trying to support internet explorer and netscape, and that sucked too.

Standards are good, having a single rule set for everyone to test against is good.

The W3C though, yeah they suck hard.

Way past time to move to a usage-based standards adoption mechanism. Let people innovate, if that change sees wide support adopt it as a standard.

Trying to make this act like it's not a webpage is awful. Make it work like a better webpage, not less of one.

It's sad that so much thought and energy went into designing something so mind-blowingly awful.

I'm with city41, I'm constantly chasing my labels now.

I don't WANT gmail to act more like a native app and less like a webpage.

If I did - I'd use a native app, not a web app.
