Hey there. Yes, of course, we love freelancers! Timely (with Memory AI) already works great for a freelancer and we have special pricing for exactly that.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Hello everybody :) When we released Timely a few years back we always described it as the time tracking app to end time tracking. The truth is that it wasn't quite there at the time.
But now, with AI coming as far it has, we can finally actually able to deliver on that promise.
It's been a long road here and I'm so happy to launch it. Please let us know what you think! :)
Hey Hacker News! Today we're launching our brand new version of Timely. It's a completely automatic time tracking platform so you'll never to think about what you worked on again or for how long. From who you email, to what places you’ve been to, how long you were on facebook or even where you drove your car.
You can also see a demo video here: https://youtu.be/Qb8bRDm1Zs8
Midnight, thank you so much for using it this long! That is seriously valued big time, and we appreciate it a lot! The visual stuff for planning is literally right around the corner. You'll have it this weekend or next week!
There were indeed some bugs that have since been squashed :)
Good blogpost, and it's a very, very valid point. I read the HIG up and down so many times and kept changing the UI.
The best way I ended up trying to get a "feel" of how this would work, was to add the designs to Flinto on an iPod touch, then covering up the rest of the screen except for the Apple Watch size. That way we could scroll around, etc. It worked for the feel of the size, but it's not a replacement for the real world use of it, of course.
There were definitively a few ah-ha moments when using it for the first time on an actual device, but I do feel we hit the experience pretty well. Apple has also featured the app as one of the best new apps for the Apple Watch, which is pretty awesome :) But yeah, completely understand your reasoning.
Regular apps can't use it – yet. I'm guessing we'll be able to come WWDC. That's why had to add those buttons you mentioned.
Thank you for saying that! Much appreciated :)
It's been both terrifying and a whole lot of fun to design for the Apple Watch. It's uncharted territory, which I cherish. But it's also weird to launch something and not being able to test if before everyone else does.
Anyhow, there will be a lot of useless apps made for this thing, but we feel that this product was made for Timely! It's such a natural extension for a time tracking and scheduling app.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Ah, it makes me truly happy to hear that! The frontpage video you're referencing took me an insane amount of time to finish. I hadn't done that kind of 3d stuff before, so I had to redo it a few times. Also, as I couldn't afford to get custom music made, I had to buy a song, which meant editing everything to match the story of the music, instead of the other way around. It's a very intersting creative way to make a video.
Anyhow, thanks again, really appreciate the comment. I'm available on mathias@timelyapp.com if you ever have questions.
Thank you for the nice comments! I actually had a call with Freshbooks a few weeks back, so we might be getting some great integrations going there.
Hehe, I can more or less promise you both of those things will be implemented.
Thanks for sharing, I'm aware of those guys. They launched long after we launched v1 of Timely, but got a ton of press when they got bought by Google.
Fuck, I'm so sorry about that! I obviously hadn't read the rules carefully enough. Deleted both tweets.
It's a highly-requested feature, but we really want to focus on the scheduling and time tracking part of the task, and make that as best as it can possibly be. We're going to stay away from invoicing, but encourage anyone to integrate it via our API.
Hey,
Being a tiny, tiny company that is bootstrapping, I'm just spreading the word anyway I can.
I'll delete it immediately if that is not allowed. I'm truly sorry if that is against the rules.
EDIT: Dammit, I obviously hadn't read the rules well enough. Just deleted both tweets!
Thank's a bunch! We're thrilled about finally getting this out there!
Stats are very interesting. Especially perhaps partnering with some other apps that already do that extremely well. Who knows. Good suggestion.
That's great! Unfortunately we aren't working on those two things just yet, but we are interested in looking at ways we might be able to add a small web version that would allow anyone outside of iOS to respond and join specific invites.
Glad to hear we're not the only ones seeing the problems with this.
For us, as a small, bootstrapped startup it's tough to do everything at the same time. It's also very important for us to get the experience right on one platform first, before we move on to different ones.
This is only our version one and we need to look at the feedback to see if we've made the right choices or need to change fundamental things.
You just listed the exact reasons for why we built this app, so I truly hope we're able to live up to what you want. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts – much appreciated! We think there's something special about a place where the purpose is to actually play sports. There's something about cultivating that niche.
We are absolutely going to implement several of the features you mentioned, and hadn't though about some of them, so thanks again!
I haven't heard of Jogabo, but will be sure to check it out. Someone else here also mentioned it.
Yeah, I do think people could enjoy more than one or two sports, especially for the occasional level. E.g. soccer and basketball regularly, and then perhaps something like running and volleyball a few times a month or something.
We have no idea though, will be interesting to see the data after a month.
Really sorry about that! We knew Facebook would put some people off, but it did two things for us; - We could outsource our login system - As we're going to have a chicken and egg problem, we wanted this to be really great with your existing facebook graph, so that people will be auto friends etc.
Will absolutely implement self login and twitter connect in future updates.
Thanks a bunch! We really like the bottom placement for navigation as well as it's a small hassle to always reach the very top to go to a different section.
You're 100% right on the sports scroller. Will improve this greatly in the future and try to get it really silky smooth. Actually using Path's FastImageCache in today's version. https://github.com/path/FastImageCache
Good feedback, thank you! This is only our first version, and will absolutely take this back to the team.
Wohoo, that's so cool to hear! There's something special about hearing from your first users around the world, and that they are actually using it for real stuff.
It's a tough problem – no doubt about it. In v1, as we expect your nearby network to be quite small, we've focused heavily on your existing friends network (from facebook) and are trying to make that experience as good as possible. Inviting them, organising the events, etc.
In the past, just like you, we used facebook groups and/or messages/chats back and fourth to friends.
Hopefully the app will be good enough for people to start out with their existing friends and then more and more people nearby will show up.
This is launch day and I'm absolutely thrilled to get it out into the wild! Appreciate any and all feedback! :)
I remember! Mr. France! :)
Really appreciate your comment, thanks a bunch! We put a lot of time into the polish, so glad to hear people take notice.
I screen recorded everything on a Retina Macbook Pro. iPhone simulator and just a regular chrome browser for the web app.
Then I add the clips into after effects and create the 3d movements with Element3D. I'll export all the clips from there and do the final edits in Final Cut Pro X. Hope that helps :)
Thank you! We don't have a desktop app right now, but we want to get it done in the future. We are however working on some pretty cool integrations stuff with the web app and the native iPhone app, so stay tuned for that!
We're looking forward to having you test it! Email mathias@timelyapp.com, and I'll invite you to the beta if you want.
