No. I DO believe lines of code was used as metric. It's a fast way to protect the top code contributors. I just don't think it's the only thing taken into consideration like people are implying...

There are countless teams and examples for it being a horrible metric to solely fire on.

I just think it's not right to jump to conclusions like Dictator Elon fires engineers with low LOC.

All we have to go off of is they had review meetings where they had to show off the code they contributed and Elon "suggested to query for lines committed."

I have still yet to see evidence that people were fired for their "lines of code added" as everyone is implying.

Would it not be reasonable to take into consideration a employees LOC as a metric?

If you're an engineer and made very few code contributions without a solid justification of why, I'd expect you to be on the chopping block...

These headlines are misleading and people are jumping the gun making assumptions as always.

Deleting 50k lines of code still counts as lines of code changed...

Current example would be the filters that modify appearance that's used a ton on influencer platforms. We've been photo shopping for years but now anyone can create a false identity online. The bad side of this is like catphishing and unrealistic body standards causing non obvious mental health issues across generations.

Future would be continuing to push the boundaries of auto formatting filtering styles based on your preference or the populations preference. Scamming, impersonation, money to be made from gullible people.

This is just the surface. I'm sure there are tons of fictional books exploring this or people with more destructive ideas.

Just because I'm terrified and am listing the bad, that doesn't mean I don't recognize the good that can come from it. I'm not sure if that out weighs the bad yet.

I'm terrified of our current and future problems around this and similar tech.

I get multiple PayPal requests for money from random throw away accounts with messages ranging from begging for money for something or just phishing invoices like this.

Worst part is that the only option via email is to "Pay". I have to log into PayPal then go through multiple clicks to reject the money request.

Gather town is pretty awesome. My team held a 300 person internal event on that platform. People seemed to really enjoy it. They got a hang of it pretty fast without prior experiences playing games.

I do like the idea of an online proximity focused office space but I couldn't get my team to buy into the idea of it. Async messaging on slack is preferred.

Check out Diabotical. It's a bit dead but it was a ton of fun for the first few months. I think it's dead because of epic games contract. It's more like quake than tribes but very nice fast paced arena fps.

I think there isn't adoption to low profile keys because of compatibility and snobs.

I have been using the gaming version of this keyboard (G915) for years and would prefer not going back to high rise keys.

Better ergonomics, looks better, easier to clean, less wobbly keys, smaller chance of breaking a keycap.

I love my G915 and I would prefer this design compared to the gamer RGB for an office setting or professional desk.

Midori MD Notebooks are the best notebooks. The paper is amazing. Highly recommend for anyone that enjoys notebooks.

I'd pay top dollar for a pebble time with smaller bezels and thinner body. Although, the pebble time was super thin compared to today's standards.

Are there any truly thin smart watches? The leaks for the new pixel watch kill all hope in my mind that I'll ever get a smart watch again since they are all thick and heavy. Even fit bits are thick compared to the pebble time.

I was in the same position but ended up buying the Onyx Boox Nova 3 color. They recently released the Nova Air color which has a better body and warm light functional (wish I had that on mine for night time reading.)

I love it for reading technical blogs, code, tech books. I wanted an ereader I could install android apps on and preserve color syntax highlighting.

Disclaimer, these devices phone home to China so most people install apps like NetGuard to curate an Allowlist of apps that can access the internet.

Some people push this stuff to the extreme and code on them. I would not enjoy that and do not recommend it but it is possible.

It's weird to suggest something like that when Notion has a rapidly growing user base.

It's a great app and has a lot of things going right for it. They are building a platform for others to also share their customized pages/databases. Tons of templates and resources to learn how to effectively use the tool.

You can try to draw comparisons but I think they and Figma are very innovative products growing in similar ways.

My random etymology guess here is one on one is from the origin of one vs one. One coming out ON top of the other. So one on one becoming simpler slang implying the same as versus.

Now one to one implies an equal relationship and especially in our field it feels weird imo to call them one to ones. Typical, you aren't equal levels in a 1:1 meeting. So maybe the one on one caught on because of the subtlety of one being on top of or above the other.

Face to face sounds too literal and agressive.

1:1 is an easy clear way to represent one on one. Although, we are forcing a double meaning on it. But hey that's the great thing about language. It's ever evolving.

Personally, in meeting titles I write PersonA/PersonB but I do type 1:1 over one on one when referring to the meeting type.

Like most, I wanted an ereader for consuming books without an LCD/OLED screen. I liked the idea of a color reader for the syntactic highlighting of code snippets. I further leaned into color once I realized there was a market for Android based ereaders. This means I can more easily treat it as a second phone to browse books, manga, github, HN, Pocket, Medium etc.

As other commenters pointed out, you probably do want to lock down the device and enable Google play store. I have NetGuard installed since it's constantly phoning home to China.

If you are comfortable with the price and understand the limitations (DPI, ghosting, darker screen) then it's a pretty great device.

The pen is great and responsive but it doesn't replace pen/paper. I primarily use the pen to mark up books/PDFs. The native library app it ships with is pretty great and beats out Moon+ Reader and other apps I've tried.

OneNote is particularly great for note taking and worth calling out. However, I can't find myself integrating it into my work flow.

You can set different options to negate ghosting. It's nice to be able to save these options to a specific app.

My biggest wishes would be higher DPI, brighter screen, and a warmlight option.

I'm not optimistic we will see any drastic innovation in the next few years. Kaleido/Plus isn't anything groundbreaking. I do hope that I'm wrong. There's a clear demand for this technology to improve.

Midori MD Notebook - A6 Grid Paper, Pilot FriXion Ball Slim Biz Gel Pen - 0.38 mm, and sticky notes helped me organize my life the last two years.

I never knew an eraseable pen could be so good. Midori paper is on another level.

I love jetpens. I'm trying out the Hobonichi Techo Weeks as a 2022 journal for more structure. But I'll always have a Midori MD for free flowing thoughts or sketches.

I love my Dyson SV10. Bought it 3 years ago and it's still working like a champ. I don't use it to vacuum a whole room but more for rugs or clean up jobs. I've got a Roomba S9+ for whole floor jobs. Swiffer wet jet for mopping/dust/hard floor.

I'd recommend watching it with subtitles. If you don't like subs after the first episode or two then go for dub. Once you get to episode 25 & 26, you could choose to watch the End of Evangelion movie instead.

Episodes 25 and 26 are very abstract and rushed due to initial production budget. EoE is a more watchable ending to the series.
