We're a funded London-based start-up, launched in late 2013. Our team includes people from a range of backgrounds (from start-ups to non-profits to corporates), all with a solid track record of developing and delivering innovative and successful products to consumer audiences.

I LOVE Topkapı Palace, it's gorgeous. Have you been?

I had an amazing tour guide who, among many other things, explained how everything had two layers of security (at least) built in. For instance, eunuchs in the Harem were always black just in case the castration was botched - that way, you could still tell the child was not the Sultan's. A bit more here: http://jmilton6000.wordpress.com/2006/11/23/the-harem-and-th...

Talk about redundancy.

Nice idea, but I do take a bit of an issue with ideas like these. More often than not, they serve as a fig leaf and give the people using them a false sense of comfort and achievement.

There's a reason sports programming exists, and a certain level of intensity, planning and rotation is necessary for results.

A better thing to follow for at least a modicum of impact is http://www.7-min.com

Anyone who's done any amount of exercise worth the designation will have to do a few rounds of this to actually get into heavy breathing territory, but it's a (structured) start!

Not sure about the other cities, but for London, the bike locations are probably coming from the GLA Datastore http://data.london.gov.uk/datastore/package/tfl-cycle-hire-l.... ATM information perhaps through Mastercard's API? http://www.programmableweb.com/api/mastercard-atm-locations

I saw this a while back and thought it was a brilliantly executed marketing campaign.

On a side note, whatever happened to Ingress?

It's not so much a theory as a collection of vignettes based on one individual's situation in their company.

I do agree with getting good at ping pong or whatever the office choice of communal activity is.

Playing foosball / Mario Kart / basketball with the whole gang in various roles definitely helped with gaining acceptance and enabling better dialogue during working hours - guess what, it's called team building and spans across sexes.

Looks great!

HTTPS giving me troubles, e.g. clicking through on footer links from HN: http://imgur.com/59cQ7G3

On an unrelated note (careful, Inception-style sentence coming up, and apologies if this has been mentioned before/isn't helpful), most of the footer links in the footer of the pages linked to in the footer of news.ycombinator.com lead to 404. Id est, click on a link in the footer, then click on a link in the footer of the page you just clicked to, 404 hey presto.

Yeah, I assumed as much but didn't make the time to investigate. Shame to hear that it's without attribution, and thanks for doing the work to find the original!

The article makes a few good, if basic, points. But, dear me, the English is appalling. Reads like someone let loose a wild babelfish.

That aside, as Winston Churchill said (or rather, as Nazi propaganda claimed he said even though he never did - which is quite apt in this context), "I only believe in statistics that I doctored myself."

Love it. Works for me in Chrome (Version 35.0.1916.153 to be precise)

Only downside: it's basically the browser equivalent of remembering you have to get your keys from the bedroom, going upstairs to get them, forgetting why you went back to your room in the first place, picking up the copy of Wired on your nightstand, heading out, and getting to the office only to realise you forgot your keys.

PS: thanks, speek, for the inspiration on making headers more obvious ;-)

Some great submissions here already (second/third the usual suspects Divvy, Alfred, VLC, Sublime Text et al.)

Depending on what you use for productivity, you might find a Pomodoro Timer useful. There are loads, and I quite like this one: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pomodoro-timer-focus-on-your... (or just use the Chrome app http://tomato-timer.com/)

And for writing creatively, I can highly recommend OmmWriter. http://www.ommwriter.com/

Amazon Prime Music 12 years ago

Amazon Prime has a solid video library, even compared to Netflix - or at least, it does in the UK. It's amazing how they're screwing it up on the positioning/awareness front though.

Only a few years ago, I was a convinced LoveFilm customer (Amazon bought LoveFilm in 2011) and only used Netflix on free trials. Oh how times have changed: since rebranding to Instant Video from LoveFilm, their base has dropped even further, and while everyone I speak to has at least heard of Netflix, nearly nobody is aware that their Amazon Prime membership also includes video.

And now with music, they don't even have a good library? Psssh.

> It's pretty damning these fake followers were able to game Klout's algorithms, since that's what Klout was trying to solve.

Agreed. They must have improved their algorithm since though, surely? The algorithm at PeerIndex (European Klout competitor) was good at ignoring fake followers IIRC. See https://web.archive.org/web/20130426180937/http://www.kernel... & http://blog.peerindex.com/pornfluence-and-the-world-of-buyin... (quite a similar experiment that Gilad conducted)

I was never taught about the Oxford Comma (I'm not a native speaker), but trained myself to use it consistently after seeing this http://jaced.com/blogpix/2013/washingtonlincolnoxford.jpg.

This has made me rethink though - he makes a great point that writing is about transferring the voices in my head into the readers', so I'll keep that in mind for any creative writing.

Heck, not just creative writing, I can think of more than one occasion where I put an Oxford Comma in a press release even though it read better to me without.

Thanks for sharing!
