Remix with react (just for the Jsx) seems like the sweet spot for me. 90% html and Js apis, with minimal magic to keep things component based and dynamic. Feels like the good ol days of PHP and ajax forms

I was very surprised after I bought a nice big monitor and great mouse that I ignored them most of the time, so now I just work off the laptop, it works best for me, which I never would have guessed in my desktop years
That said, I've been very productive with a creaky noisy cheap lenovo with ubuntu so in my case it's not just about productivity but also comfort
Re: do hinges ever break? they tend to, when you use the laptop 10 hours per day
- retina screen
- great touchpad (and gestures)
- all day battery
- no noise at all (optional but for me a big plus)
- hinge that stands the test of time
- aluminum (of very resistant) body
i'll buy a laptop that checks these off under $1600, but so far m1 air is the only one I found, and it's cheaper than that

Been coding on ubuntu for the last 10 years and just moved to m1 air.
I miss gnome but not much else, and definitely not tweaking everything from the console by using obscure commands found on google
I love the macos "just works" mantra and while i'm still getting adjusted to it and there are definitely some quirks I don't like, I think I'm being more productive on mac for just not needing to mess with random things breaking when ubuntu gets updated

rate of change may actually be decreasing, as the low hanging fruit isn't there anymore.
it may be that big breakthroughs like the last century will be fewer and further apart, especially with lots of energy (physical and intelectual) spent on bitcoin, social media and consuming in general
seconding this, if you don't need lots of resources it makes sense. I pair it with Amazon cloudfront and so far, almost one year in with zero problems. By far the biggest win for me is the peace of mind
