The way we use airsend (https://www.airsend.io) as team space (group the channels to team) and separate channels for high activity topics/projects. We don’t need to hop different servers (discord) to get the information and context. For instance, we have an austin astronomy channel in airsend (just one channel. Honestly airsend (https://www.airsend.io) works better than Zoom . Airsend can join meetings without creating accounts (God send for interviewing job candiy). With all the Zoom dark ui patterns galore, UX is confusing for new users. Zoom forces desktop app and quality has come down also. Now Teams and Meet are even better than Zoom.

It is not correct to say none of the dropbox competitors offer linux sync clients. We (https://www.getfilecloud.com) are a dropbox competitor and we offer clients for windows, mac and linux. It is most likely Dropbox faces higher churn in their primary customer demography (Creatives and Professionals). Their offering lack many admin controls it is not yet ideal for enterprises where the churn is low. Further, OneDrive and G-Suite offers much better value by bundling the productivity suite.

Yes. You need both sync and async capabilities in a communication tool. It is hard to choose two different tools for that purpose. Both have a place when it comes to Team communication.

Totally Agree. We have quite a few smaller professional communities switching to our airsend (https://www.airsend.io/) exactly for the same reason. What we hear often from these users is that managing discord (tool) takes more time than the actual communication. It is ideal for large communities but if you want something simple discord is not the way to go.

The concept behind a simple collaboration tool should be one that is designed for its ease of use and serves a purpose. A tool like Microsoft Teams solves this by creating a matrix type of collaboration tool; however, the result, though helps tremendously for large teams, is also lacking for small teams. Microsoft Teams, in its own way, creates a simple tool to use, however, their "simplistic design," is not actually simplistic. And what's more is that, because the collaboration tool has a lot of hidden features, most teams are not experiencing the full collaboration aspect.

Essentially the problem that needs to be addressed is how do you create a simplistic matrix type of collaboration tool that allows all users to fully use a product without any apparent confusion.

From a competitor perspective, Discord is a great product. There is no question about it. But the UI/UX and lingo is heavily optimized for gaming communities.

Unfortunately price is the information. It is actually a better indicator of quality than many other attributes. Not a perfect one but better.

I think Slack's case against MS has legs. I work for a company that makes a competitive product (https://www.airsend.io) to Teams/Slack. It gives a bit of insight on what is happening here.

Teams comes free with office 365 (now microsoft 365). For just 5$ per user/per month one can get email/one drive/office web apps and teams. There is no way slack can compete with the pricing. Slack's pricing starts at 6.67$. For businesses, office apps are a must have. When Teams is bundled with office apps, there is really not a reason for businesses to go and pay for Slack. So one can argue MS is using its dominant position in office suite to undercut the competition. The fair thing to do is charge some money for Teams. Personally I feel we need to have more diversity and choices in the IT systems we use. Increasingly the tools we use are controlled by 2/3 dominant platforms (4 companies account for 49% value of Nasdaq 100). It is not good for customers in the long term. Once you obliterate the competition by bundling it free, one can always come back and raise the price.

There is some serious blood between MS and Slack (It all goes back to the time when MS tried to acquire Slack). FWIW, Slack's posture during that time was also not really good (Cocky). I am guessing - It hurt somebody's ego very badly in MS. So the leadership team in MS made it as a personal mission to obliterate Slack. The whole game is playing out now.

It is google.. they get bored and leave after some time. It also feels like they are forcing things to thier existing gmail (would have been better if they build it from scratch like MS teams). It feels quite complex and not sure how they will manage the notifications from all the systems.

Correct me if I am wrong. Slack connect is available only in paid slack versions. When you collaborate across organizations than the assumption is all parties have paid slack. That most likely will not be the scenario when you collaborate with third parties. That is the big problem here.

Yes. Think of zoominfo’s new ipo. They are big and can work around the regulations (ex: CAN SPAM) of selling user information. Also according to CCPA, if you process 50,000 user records in a year (just 150 accounts per day) you will come under the purview. Many privacy regulations Only benefit the big five tech companies (Linkedin charges $10 for one inmail). Any new regulation should exclusively address the big players first before pushing more regulation to startups and small biz. They are already struggling. If you dont do that we all endup with 4/5 companies. I would say oligopolies are bigger problem than privacy currently. We need more diversity in tech systems. YoY the diversity is going down if you take the important IT systems people use into account.

The thing is multi-channel guest users are counted as your internal users for billing purposes. If you work with lot of clients (accounting firms, realtors) it is not really affordable. Also, in scenarios where the clients have their own workspace than they need to switch the workspace and then access the channel.

Checkout AirSend(https://www.airsend.io). It brings team chat, built-in file, task management and notes in one space. One big downside of slack/team is that they are built for team communication within the organization.
