Essential broke my heart when they launched without the headphone jack (okay, not really, but you they did eliminate me as a customer for this version -- maybe I won't need the headphone jack for their next release).

It is a survey...so who knows how real it is, but 55.86% were negatively impacted Apple removing the headphone jack. While Apple customers don't have a choice, Android users do and we will vote with our wallets.

It is fairly simple: having a GitHub account and being active on StackOverflow don't appeal to the majority of developers. Those sites will capture far less than 1% (made up, but probably close) of developers making them not the best location for hiring managers to look.

IMO, if you want to find developers to hire then LinkedIn and recommendations from other developers are still the best route. Having a successful GitHub project doesn't always translate to "great team developer" as different skills are required for each. Being helpful on StackOverflow for a very specific thread doesn't always mean you are a master of your craft. Having both experience and recommendations from the industry and category being hired for is more of a "guarantee".

Good point. I can't remember ever paying for a specific video (or even considering donating, other than clicking an ad). I wasn't familiar with bloc.io, but that is really cool! That road is the all-in approach if I go it solo. I have some designers at my disposal: maybe one of them would help me.

I love stackexchange. They are fantastic at responding to one-off questions. My style is to build small, functional applications from launching visual studio to debug without cutting the video.

I feel you on not making every hobby a business. I also brew beer and have now given up on "starting a micro brewery" and, instead, focused on brewing really great beers that my friends and I like. Ever since doing that, I have been winning more awards and have tuned my brews to my tastes.

Given the current amount of questions that are emailed to me, maybe a model could be a private screen-sharing session where I can correct their mistakes on their computer. I would like that.

I am not CodeAcademy, but I think my videos are still pretty helpful. :) Rather than showing small features in .net, I decided to build mini projects.

Thanks a lot! You aren't alone. I sat in the Stripe campfire room for many hours while developing the connectivity and that question was asked by a lot of different people during that time.
