I obviously don't know you, but based off that comment, I think you're missing the forest for the trees and I'd venture to guess that it's because you've never experienced something like DMT. There are definitely levels to certain lessons in life, like learning that "feeling sure" isn't enough to be certain of something. Sure, math class taught you that if something doesn't add up, it's not true. But I see that as an intro to that life lesson of "feeling sure" not being enough. A few levels up from that understanding, a lot of times, involves something like DMT giving you a metaphorical 50,000 ft view from where you can begin to understand that even those math problems might not be the end all, be all of truth.

I think the point they were making was that regardless of how you feel emotionally about giving up specific information, it has no effect on whether a country allows you to enter. So go ahead and do only what you feel is "acceptable", just don't be surprised when you are turned away at the border for not filling out all of the required documents.

My questioning the long term safety of GMO's is logical though. Peer reviewed studies on the topic just plain don't address the very real possibility that GMO's can have very harmful effects 20, 30, or 50+ years down the road. Both to our environment and our bodies. Believing that a short term study that concludes they're "safe" also means they're safe in the long term is quite a leap of faith, and illogical.

Edit: To put it another way, I'll bet short term studies concluded that asbestos was "safe" to use as a building material. In the long run though, that didn't really turn out to be the case.

Really? To me, the thing that is most discouraging about HN is the rampant closed mindedness. For example, anyone who questions the long term safety of genetically modifying organisms and eating them, will always be downvoted to oblivion.

Those are not really side-effects of Naloxone, they are side-effects of reversing the effect of opiates. So if an addict were to quit an opiate addiction cold turkey, they would experience some (or very rarely, all) of the effects you listed. If you give Naloxone to someone without opiates in their system, they wouldn't experience those effects. Their habit harms the health of everyone around them. Your comments make it seem like you don't understand that fact. Being mean or nice has nothing to do with any of it, it's about not inflicting harm on people that choose not to smoke.

So anytime something bad happens to a person (their wallet or phone is stolen, or their family dog is killed), and the victim believes the perpetrator acted maliciously, would you tell them that "smacks of conspiracy thinking" (whatever that means to you)?

Another educational moment for you would be to look up the word "conspiracy" to learn what it means. I understand that you were hoping to use it as a dismissive term, but you would have been better off using a universally dismissive term like "crazy", as there are a lot of rational people that understand the factual meaning of "conspiracy" and don't interpret it in the same way you do.

No, you just shouldn't accept paypal. As k3oni states, it doesn't matter how much money you have in your paypal account. When a chargeback happens paypal will take whatever small amount of money you do have in there, and your account will go negative for the remaining balance... and then the bill collectors start calling.

I'm pretty sure they made that comment under the assumption that your job offer was in SF. That was the impression I got reading your original comment as well.

Have you considered living in one of the many cities on the peninsula that are all extremely close to the Caltrain and BART tracks, 101 & 280 freeways, and much better schools than those in the east bay? They're also very close to the actual city you would be working in (Mountain View). Much closer than SF.

For the record, as someone who has read a few articles about the guy, seen a couple pictures, and in all honesty was leaning more towards not liking him more than I do, this news has excavated a nice, temporary soft spot in my heart for the guy. Funny stuff.
