When I was a kid I wanted to learn how to skateboard. I watched videos on technique a lot, read a bunch of articles, watched Rodney Mullen do some insane foot trickery, and then one night I had a dream of the mechanics of it. Standing on the board as I'd learned online, how to push (not mongo, naturally), and when waking up that day, I asked my friend if I could borrow a skateboard to try.

I remember getting on the board, pushing as I'd dreamed, and voila! Off I went. Something about it did not feel new at all. I'd really visualised the process and it just worked. God I miss skating sometimes, but my self-preservation always far outweighed my desire to eat concrete.

A bit off topic, but I recently had a drink that didn't have the attached bottle cap while travelling abroad, and my god, was it a minor annoyance to have to hold the bottle cap in my hand while drinking. I also almost dropped it because I expected it to stay attached. Funny how fast we adapt.

Every single time I get up and then sit back down, I have to brace myself for electrical impact. Maybe it's the universe telling me to stop working (or stop taking breaks... hmm).

Same! This nightmare seems to have started recently from what I have experienced. I find myself hard refreshing constantly to get the damn tickets to open.

If anyone from atlassian reads this: please, for the love of god resolve this issue.

Just replaced my 13 mini battery this past week which was at 80%. Noticeable improvement. I'm not a very heavy user but did find that I was getting to the 20/10% range at the end of most days. Now its 30/40 and I'm happy! Many more years in the old steed yet.

I’ve also found that a bigger focus on expanding my agents.md as the project rolls on has led to less headaches overall and more consistency (non-surprisingly). It’s the same as asking juniors to reflect on the work they’ve completed and to document important things that can help them in the future. Software Manger is a good way to put this.

So I'm not sure if anyone has tried this in the over 700 comments here, so apologies if it's been double-posted, but the rationale from ChatGPT almost makes me understand where it's coming from when you ask it to create an image of what it's thinking.

Still not really sure why you would need to get the water from the carwash next door, but maybe the soap quality is better?

I’m also doing similar with fairly decent results. AGENTS.md grows after each session that resulted in worthwhile knowledge that future sessions can take advantage of. At some point I assume it will be too big, then it’s back to the Stone Age for the new agents, in order to release some context for the actual work.

A few years ago (possibly around the same time as the author), I also took up running and was gifted a Garmin from a running friend of mine. He also recommended an app called TrainAsOne, a running scheduled that did/does an AI/ML and poops put a constantly adjusting scheduled for you.

The first three weeks were great, but boy howdy TAO was pushing me fairly hard. “That’s fine, I’m young (32), I can do it!” I could not. Fourth week I get hit with massive runners knee and I’m out for a few months.

The app couldn’t know this was going to happen, I’ve got pretty bad knees genetically, but my dedication to the EXACT specifications of each outing determined by the model was absolute, and to my detriment.

The same friend who gifted me the watch told me to go slow, short runs, build the endurance, but the app differed, so who did I trust more? I digress.

I’ve since cancelled the app, and I’m back running for a few years, all while managing the injury. Like the author, I’ll be tackling the Berlin Marathon in September. But my training is now done on my own terms. I’m guided by some external advice, but unwavering acceptance of an app to what I do with my body is not something I want to try again.

I still track all my runs, but all I do is start the watch, and go for a run. It doesn’t beep at me to go faster or slower, it just shuts its mouth while I move forward.

All that aside, I can’t help but do the maths on my monthly volume to ensure I’m hitting bigger and bigger milestones. Thank god the watch is counting it for me ;)

Your “technical guy” sounds a lot like me.

When debugging stuff with the devs at our work, I tend to overexplain as much as I can, because often there’s some deep link between systems that I don’t understand, but they do.

I’m a pretty firm believer in “no stupid questions (or comments)”, because often going in a strange direction that the devs assure me isn’t the problem, actually turns out to be the problem (maybe thing A actually has some connection to thing B in a very abstract way!).

I think just serving a different perspective or theory can help us all solve the problem faster, so sometimes it’s worth to pull that thread, even if it seems worthless in the moment.

Maybe I’m just lucky that my engineering colleagues are very patient with me (and maybe less lucky that some of our systems are so deeply intertwined), but I do hope they have more than zero expectations from me, as we mean well and just want to support where we can, knowing full well that ya’ll are leagues ahead in the smarts department.

These are beautiful. As someone who has 3 small dots on my back from stick and poke, this must’ve been a seriously enduring endeavour. And for them to be so intricate and somehow so modern, it really boggles the mind.

Interesting that the gryphon is present here, wasn’t aware it was part of the mythology of Siberia 2000 years ago.
