Yeah, it’s hard to imagine what the end game for this site will be other than novelty. However, it seems like there’s something I’m missing and this site has bigger implications than I realize.

Love the way that works. The only problem with it is that a another, non-related, CSS class still needs to be used. If the element doesn't call for another class you could select the elements directly, but that kinda defeats the point of OOCSS.

I hate open floor plans. My company recently moved from a two person office floor plan to an open floor plan. Before the move, the majority of us were talkative, social, and also got our work done. Now, in the open office, it's like a library. No one wants to talk b/c everyone else can here the conversation. Not to mention our bosses are sitting in this open floor plan as well.

My biggest pain point with open floor plans is this. Sometimes, I just want to put my head down and code for 3 hours straight. Doing this sends off an antisocial vibe to the other marketing, content, and SEO employees sitting near me.

Those are all valid concerns. As far as there being though competition in this niche, there is. However, a good majority of those sites are plain blog sites and don't allow up voting down voting etc. And yes, we have a lot of work to do to promote the site so it gets traction. All great points.

Cleveland isn't know for its Tech/Startup scene. So over the past couple of months, a few of my buddies decided to start a Meetup ( Startup Slam Cleveland ) with the goal of changing this perception. Yes, this is a huge endeavor. Changing anyone's stereotype of a city is pretty ambitious, but we decided that something, no matter how small, should be done. Eventually, we turned the Meetup into a mirco incubator ( Blazooka ) with the long term goal of growing the incubator on a larger scale.

To start out we decide to build something that could, in the loosest of terms, become a viable product. It was more important to launch something quickly then to sit around and not make any decision at all.

We threw around a lot of ideas and choose to do a Siri Humor site for our first project. The decision was made on a lot of factors, primarily being:

- The idea was simple and it could be launched relatively quickly.

- There is competition for this niche, but we felt that we could make a better product.

- The idea could, and eventually should, be turned into a mobile app.

- The site can make money with custom Siri quoted T-Shirts, ads, and any potential income from a mobile app.

- The three founders could all help develop it.

With that said, and with a lot of hard work http://siriously.co launched in public beta on Feb 1st. We are excited, but we also realize that there are a lot of features that still need developed and there are some bugs in the system; but overall the main functionality of the site should work. Getting it launched, since launching anything can be very difficult, was the primary goal.

Now, it might be ironic that we made a humor site, especially when outsiders throw Cleveland jokes around like its their job. But we don't take ourselves too siriously, so we'll just roll with the punches for now. And hopefully, one day, with a lot of hard work, our Cleveland incubator Blazooka, will be taken seriously as well. We're in it for the long haul.

I first met Portland when attending JSConf this year. The city is simply amazing.

It's relatively cheap, its residents seem very pleasant, its street are well laid out, it's biker friendly, it's in a beautiful area, it has great food ( loved all the food trucks ), it's youthful, it's walkable, it has great public transportation, it has a grassroots feel to it, it has a great tech vibe to it, it has great neighborhoods, it has great shopping, it seems unpretentious, etc, etc...

Ever since I left, I've seriously thought about moving there.

Is is just me that thinks this is that totally unacceptable, for this site is one of the only Bitcoin exchanges in the US. This alone could cause panic trades when they eventually do get back up and running.

At the core I am a developer. It is possible for me to become knowledgeable in change management and make the switch to management, but I would rather leave the company before doing so. Thanks for the suggestion though, anything helps.

I totally agree with you; SEO should be done in house. However, what if you absolutely need the help and do not have the time to do it on your own.

You really seem to be missing the point. Yes insurance in general is currently not in the best shap, but it still does work for some people. It seems to me that you have been letting the negative connotation of current situation of health/whatever insurance go to your head without seeing that it currently does have benefits for some people right now. Yes right now. I too think the insurance industry sucks, but if it can benefit a particular person, then why not use it. It makes no sense not to.

The perfect example being that dental insurance can work in some instances. I have personally used it successfully in the past in have saved a lot of money using it on a fillings procedure. And that is just one example.

Again the only reason why I am asking here is to find a solid company that a lot of others recommend. It looks like the latest comment is one of them.

Don't get me wrong. I agree that insurance should only be used on 'serious problems'. That is exactly why I am asking.

You only pay $100 dollars/year on average. But that is just you. For instance, a good majoriy of people will get a cleaning and then the Dentist will find some decay or a cavity, which will require a second visit. That second visit is what can really put a dent in someone's pocket. I'll take the risk of buying a $100/yr dental plan for this case. If it the plan ends up sucking, then big deal $100 bucks down the drain. But that is one of the reasons why I am asking here-- to avoid throwing that hard earned money away.

What Dental plans have people had positive experiences with?

It seems pretty crazy to use your 'bank account' alone, when there are dental plans that cover up to 50% of costs for as little as $100 per year. I am just trying to figure out which one of those is the best option. If anyone here has had a good experience with one of them, please let me/us know.

So what is an alternative Web Based IRC client? For those of us working behind a corporate firewall, Mibbit.com was the only way to access IRC.

Considering the economic climate, it seems like a waste not allow users to post jobs in the jobs section. I understand that users/admin do not want this to turn into a Monster.com, but if the admin only allow users with a certain amount of karma to post specifically to News.YCombinator.com/jobs this would significantly reduce spam. That is just one suggestion.

It just seems like a waste for one of the most trusted resources on the web to not allow its users to connect for one of the most important aspects of our lives--Jobs.

My only gripe with DuckDuckgo is their use of highlighting. The results do not need to be highlighted on hover. I know this is the current trend in webdesign, but to me that kind of highlighting just becomes a distraction.
