Udacity's course Design of Computer Programs by Peter Norwig was the best intro to decorators I have seen.

Is it an extension to San José International Airport, or exclusive airport for google? How does that work out? I am confused by "The companies would be granted a 50-year lease and pay an estimated $2.6m in annual rent, along with an estimated $400,000 in fuel-flow fees and between $70,000 and $300,000 in new taxes."
I have registered for the test kit. I really appreciate the way amit and friends have set up the campaign. This gives maximum chance for him to survive and also helps other victims as well, since they might contact you if some one else needs help. Good luck Amit, I hope you will pull through it.
According to wikipedia, flipkart was funded by founders with Rs 4 lakh and broke even in 2008, I don't understand how it is loss making. It is certainly not worth $1 billion now, but so was facebook when it was funded by MS. I don't think any body would be so stupid in making decisions as described by the author.
Was it only in my browser the train was going faster on the inclines than on declines?
Sugar coating email invite is lame. There was a time when I almost always saw google doing awesome things. Now it doesn't look any different from other big companies like microsoft or IBM. I wonder if it is possible to be a big company and still do really cool things?
I would love to see someone compete with FB to prevent it from becoming a total monopoly. Having said that, it is really difficult to believe that google can do that, based on the last few new products from google.
Scheme, since it is so simple. Very easy to learn. No syntax, no comma, no semi-colon. I would have been delighted to learn scheme as my first language rather than c.
This post needs some content. It is indeed hard to find technical co-founders. But finding employees is not as hard as finding co-founders. Spending time on SO, hn and some mailing lists on the technology you are planning to use will help though. If an engineer takes offer for money from google, then he probably does not fit into a startup. There will be people willing to work for start up, if the idea is challenging, for equity.
Things come and go in HN, but that cannot be a primary reason to quit HN itself. Today it is TSA, yesterday it was offer hn etc. I have gained more in knowledge than what I have lost in time on HN, as long as it is that way, I am staying.
Looks like HN effect. I am getting connection refused error.
Thanks for the nice reply. My first experience with GAE was not good, after that I have never looked at it. I took a look at webapp and tipfy, both look good. I will make some time to give it a try.
I first learnt how system calls transition from user space to kernel space when I read this book. Till then I had not understood the mechanism, though I knew what software interrupt is.
Interesting read. One of the most important reason I use open source software as opposed to proprietary ones is the confidence that open source software will not try to do anything evil. I believe that message can reach China also.
This is same question many of my veggie friends ask. I think no, it is not the same for humans. For other carnivores, it does not make any difference.
I simply can't understand why eating meat is wrong, when eating plant is not wrong. I feel they are same.
Agreed. We can some how manage to make our living on consulting and cutting expenses, but if you are still in day job, it will take up major part of your time and energy. Also, some companies will have employment agreement that you will not work for any other thing
Definitely worth a try. I am concerned about my discipline to come back to work after playing a game for 30 mins. May be playing TT would be better idea, since I feel playing physical games refreshes me more that video games.
Quotes from PG's Essays: If you look at these languages in order, Java, Perl, Python, you notice an interesting pattern. At least, you notice this pattern if you are a Lisp hacker. Each one is progressively more like Lisp. Python copies even features that many Lisp hackers consider to be mistakes. You could translate simple Lisp programs into Python line for line. It's 2002, and programming languages have almost caught up with 1958. Macros (in the Lisp sense) are still, as far as I know, unique to Lisp. This is partly because in order to have macros you probably have to make your language look as strange as Lisp. It may also be because if you do add that final increment of power, you can no longer claim to have invented a new language, but only a new dialect of Lisp. I think it is true even today
I was really sad to see India ranked so low. I remember my friend starting a company by paying Rs 6000 to broker, who took care of all the things. Things work differently in India, if you do not go through a broker, you might take a few weeks :-(
DHH is not exactly known for being politically correct.
This was there on HN 6 months back. More discussion here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1280304.
I am curious about how Facebook will manage to hold on to its users if some other more attractive social networking site opens up. We do remember what happened to Myspace and Orkut. Google could hold on to search because it was very hard for a new company to build Google kind of search infrastructure.
For $7.69b.
Voldemort?
C is as close to machine as any other language can get. Why not new Johnny learn programming in C?
I thought about it because of lot of Apple/ipad/iphone/andriod stories, which were far from gratifying one's intellectual curiosity, also there are lot of comments about front page of HN being far from what it was about 2 years ago.
One thing that is different here is that this site does not need to generate (ad/any) revenue, so many of the irritating things that will be common in other forums will be absent here.

The whole idea of "your computer" is going away, and being replaced with "your data." You should be able to get at your data from any computer. Or rather, any client, and a client doesn't have to be a computer.
It is one of partners of apple, they manufacture for hp and dell as well
